The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1928

Just as Adalyn was about to say something else, the conference room door suddenly opened.

A middle-aged woman stepped out and called, "Number 12, are you here?"

Wynter looked down at her number tag. "I'm here."

The woman waved her over. "You're up. Come in."

"Alright." Wynter stood up and whispered, "I'll go in first."

Dalton gave a slight nod. "Okay."

Adalyn offered some encouragement. "Good luck!"

Wynter smiled in return and followed the woman into the conference room.

Inside, two interviewers sat waiting—both around 40 years old, one male and one female. Their sharp eyes locked onto Wynter from the moment she walked in. Both of them wore Bluetooth earpieces, and a security camera in the top right corner of the room was aimed directly at them.

"Wynter Quinnell, right?" The male interviewer flipped through her résumé, his brows furrowing deeper with each line. "You graduated from a nameless mainland university and have no internship experience. Just based on these two facts, we could reject you outright."

Wynter's face showed a hint of discomfort. "I… I know my academic background isn't outstanding, but I taught myself office software during university. I may not be an expert, but I'm a fast learner, and I promise to work very hard. I truly value this opportunity, maybe even more than other candidates do."

The female interviewer let out a cold laugh. "Stellar Corporation doesn't need people who desperately need the job. We need people who bring value to the company. I bet someone like you doesn't even know the basic functions in Excel."

Wynter bit back her frustration. Ever since she had picked up computer skills, she'd been fluent in using office tools, but she lowered her head and softly replied, "I… I can learn, and I will learn quickly."

The male interviewer shook his head. "You may learn quickly, but that still means we have to spend company time training you. We could just hire someone who already knows everything. I'm sure there's no shortage of those."

Tears welled at the corners of Wynter's eyes, and she forced them out. "I know talent like that isn't hard to find, but my cousin and I came to Havenia hoping for a chance to prove ourselves. Please believe me. I will bring value to the company."

The male interviewer then handed her a piece of paper. "Next question—What would you do if you discovered a coworker stealing in the office?"

Wynter dabbed at her tears and blinked, thinking for a few seconds. "First, I'd make sure it isn't a misunderstanding. If it isn't, I'd report the incident to my immediate supervisor according to company policy."

"Shouldn't you try to stop them first?" the male interviewer pressed.

Wynter looked up, her tone cautious. "I believe protecting the company's interests is important, but how we handle things matters, too. Confronting someone directly could create unnecessary conflict, which might hurt the company even more."

The male interviewer stared at her for a few seconds before turning to his colleague. "Anything else?"

The female interviewer replied coldly, "You may wait outside. We'll inform you if there's any news."

Wynter stood and gave a slight bow. "Thank you for your time. I trust your judgment and believe people like you won't let valuable talent go to waste."

With that, she turned and left the interview room.

Behind the surveillance camera, a man holding a glass of red wine watched the scene unfolding in the interview room. He took a slow sip and murmured to himself, "Interesting…"

Meanwhile, Adalyn turned to Dalton. "Do you think your cousin will pass the interview?"

Dalton parted his lips slightly. "She will."

"You're that confident in her?" Adalyn widened her eyes. "Stellar Corporation's benefits are amazing. That's why it's so hard to get in."

Dalton gave a small nod. "I… I believe in my cousin."

Just as he finished speaking, Wynter walked out of the interview room. Adalyn immediately leaned forward. "Well? How did it go? Do you think you passed?"

Wynter neither nodded nor shook her head. "I'm not sure. Maybe?"

Dalton's number was just two after hers.

Suddenly, the door to the interview room burst open, and a man stumbled out, practically crawling. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have done that!"

One of the interviewers shouted from inside, "How dare you try to bribe the panel? Get out! You're blacklisted—permanently!"

Wynter watched the scene quietly, her gaze sharpening.

The interviewers didn't waver at attempted bribery, and the consequences of such an act were permanent disqualification. It all pointed to a company with a strict and principled system. There were no loopholes in this management.

Just then, a voice called out, "Number 14, are you here?"

Wynter turned to Dalton. "It's your turn. Good luck, Dalton!"

Dalton smiled lightly. "I'll do my best." Then, he stood up and followed the same woman into the interview room.

Adalyn leaned closer, whispering as he walked away, "Your cousin is aging like fine wine. Honestly, who could look away from him? He's a total dream guy."

Wynter replied gently, "My cousin's the kind who could charm an entire nation into ruin. It's best you keep your heart in check. Otherwise, you'll end up broke and thanking him for it."

Adalyn let out a little gasp. "Seriously? Is he that scary?"

Wynter nodded. "He's possibly even worse than I'm making it sound."

Adalyn sighed. "I guess I'll look somewhere else, then. Oh, by the way, what's the mainland like? The way you described it earlier makes me want to visit when I'm free."

Wynter lifted her gaze in the mainland's direction. "It's hard to describe. All I can tell you is there are beautiful mountains, beautiful rivers, and even more beautiful people."

While the two chatted, the interview room door opened again, and Dalton stepped out slowly. Even without a tailored suit, he still radiated that quiet, irresistible allure.

Wynter looked at him. "How'd it go?"

"We'll have to wait for the results," he replied as he sat down. "Let's go find a place for a drink."

Wynter nodded, then turned to Adalyn. "Do you want to come with us? I believe it's fate that we met here."

Adalyn thought for a moment, then shook her head. "It's better if I don't. I'll wait here for the results. This job's been my dream for a long time."

"Alright." With that, Wynter and Dalton got up and walked off together toward a nearby cafe.

...

Meanwhile, inside the interview room, the two interviewers, still wearing Bluetooth earpieces, spoke quietly into the air. "Boss, is there anyone you're interested in?"

A smooth, magnetic voice responded in their ears, "What do you two think?"

The male interviewer furrowed his brow slightly. "Honestly, none of this batch meets the usual standards, and even their physical fitness is average."

The voice chuckled lightly. "Numbers 8, 12, and 14. Notify them that they'll be taken for a physical exam in an hour."

The interviewer nodded firmly. "Understood, Boss."

He then stepped out of the interview room and addressed the remaining candidates. "Everyone else, the interviews are over. You'll be notified by text message if you pass."

...

Wynter and Dalton were seated in a nearby cafe with two cups of coffee.

Wynter's eyes sparkled with amusement. "I'm curious about the kind of questions they ask you."

Dalton swirled his coffee. "They were just shallow, surface-level stuff."

Wynter quickly nodded and went inside.

So far, nothing seemed off. After about two hours, all three completed their checkups.

The interviewer then said in his usual gruff tone, "We'll take you back to the company to wait. Once your test results are in, we'll decide who gets hired."

They retraced their steps back to the company building. Inside, it looked like a standard office setup, but one glance around told a different story.

No one seemed to be working. Some employees were playing games, while others were watching shows or dramas. The atmosphere felt more like a vacation resort than a workplace.

The interviewer leaned in and said quietly, "You can rest here for now. I'll get you something to drink."

Wynter gave him a bright smile. "Thank you!"

Still, a trace of doubt flickered in her mind. Something didn't quite add up.

A moment later, the interviewer returned with bottled drinks and handed them out.

He sat down beside them. "By the way, once you pass the medical examination, you'll officially be Stellar employees. Today, each of you will receive a 300-dollar onboarding bonus."

Wynter paused mid-sip. Getting paid before even starting work? She couldn't help but wonder if this mysterious boss was made of cash.

"The boss says joining Stellar is like coming home," he continued, nodding toward the others in the room. "Once you finish the tasks you're given, you're free to do whatever, be it games or movies. We even prepare afternoon tea, and there's no overtime."

Wynter's eyes lit up. "This company is amazing. I swear I'll dedicate my life to Stellar Corporation! I'll create value for the company forever!"

Adalyn looked equally stunned. "I'll give everything for Stellar, too!"

Dalton, on the other hand, remained calm and composed, sitting upright in his chair, like a man untouched by the world's chaos.

The interviewer noticed his expression and frowned. "You don't look impressed."

Dalton glanced sideways, and Wynter jumped in smoothly. "My cousin always looks calm on the outside, but he's probably thrilled inside. That's just how he is, so don't mind him."

The interviewer grunted, but the tension in his face eased. "Fine."

Just then, his phone rang. He checked the screen and stood up. "I need to report to the boss. You three wait here."

They nodded and watched as he walked into an office nearby.

...

Inside, a middle-aged man sat in a leather chair. Seeing the interviewer enter, he asked in a low voice, "How's the quality?"

The interviewer stepped forward. "We're still waiting on the results, but with your eye for talent, they should be high-quality candidates."

The man chuckled. "Even the best judge can make mistakes. We'll wait for the results. Our clients aren't easy to please, after all."

"Understood, sir," the interviewer said, then leaned in to whisper, "But we're giving them so much up front. Wouldn't that..."

The man slowly shook his head. "Trust grows naturally when someone keeps receiving benefits. Alright, you may go now. Report back the moment you get the results."

The interviewer nodded. "Alright, sir. I'll take my leave now."

...

Back in the lounge, Wynter kept glancing at the other employees.

There were tea, fruits, movies, and timely salaries, with no overtime. This company's treatment of its employees was almost too good—suspiciously good.
