Just after hanging up the phone, a voice rang in Wynter's ear. "My dear Ms. Quinnell, are you done with the call?"
Wynter glanced over at him. "How did you hear everything loud and clear even when the phone wasn't on speaker?"
Dalton chuckled. "I didn't. I just figured that you'd turn to Lancelot for the investigation since it involves foreigners."
"It seems you are already aware of all the people I could use." Wynter's gaze sharpened. "But I still need to pay Mr. Chamberlain a visit for this matter."
Dalton nodded. "That's fine with me. But... maybe you should have a look at Wolf first."
Hearing that, Wynter turned and saw Wolf clinging to Dalton's slender waist, mumbling something about starving and wanting food.
"How about this? I'll call Mr. Chamberlain and have him come to us instead." As she spoke, Wynter pulled Wolf off Dalton. "Mr. Leprechaun has a reputation to keep. What will people think if they see you clinging to his waist like this on the street?"
Wolf blinked. "Mmh… No energy… I'm starving…"
Wynter made a call with one hand while holding up Wolf with the other. "Mr. Chamberlain, I'll send you a location. Please come find me. I need to speak with you in person."
Antoine chuckled on the other end. "Of course, Ms. Quinnell. I've got something to tell you as well. I'll head out now."
Wynter replied with a soft hum and ended the call. She looked down at Wolf. "Do you not have even a bit of strength left?"
Wolf nodded. "I feel drained. I will need some meat to recharge…"
With no other option, Wynter looked for a nearby place to eat. Once they found a spot and sat down, she ordered a few meat dishes and returned the menu to the owner.
Wolf lay on the table, looking utterly spent. "Boss… meat…"
Wynter patted his head. "Meat's on the way. I'll get more for you if it's not enough."
Wolf nodded, lying there obediently while waiting for the food to arrive.
Dalton said softly, "We should take this time to reorganize everything that's happened recently. I think we might discover something new."
Wynter nodded in agreement. "It's all part of the foreigners' plan, but what surprised me was that the Chamber of Commerce ended up in those people's hands."
Dalton turned slightly toward her. "Not many would refuse money. The Chamber of Commerce rose from nothing, and the more it grows, the more envy it attracts. Plenty of people have wanted to take control of it, but only Charis succeeded. No one's been able to take it from him since."
Wynter's gaze grew colder. "That would mean that Charis has powerful backing. It can't be just from foreign forces. His standing among them must be high. Otherwise, political figures in Havenia wouldn't have kept supporting him."
They scattered money around in Havenia like they grew on trees, not only inciting unrest, but also engaging in smear campaigns and organ trafficking.
They would then dump the blame on people from the mainland. It was a tactic to sway public opinion and make the people of Havenia believe that their true home lay with the foreign powers.
Once Havenia fell under those forces' control, their plan would be near complete. In the end, what they truly wanted was the Celestial Force and the sacred item tied to it.
With that thought, Wynter turned to Dalton. "It's the same old tricks in a new disguise. All these surface-level stunts are just laying the groundwork for finding the sacred item."
Dalton raised his hand slightly. "Exactly. Now that we know their ultimate goal, we can probably predict their next move."
Wynter tapped the table with her fingers. "They're doing all this to throw Havenia into chaos. Once laundered, the money they make from smear campaigns and organ trafficking gets funneled into crashing the market."
Dalton nodded. "Crashing the market would plunge Havenia into complete chaos. Once the city's stock prices collapse, neither the common folk nor the wealthy will benefit. It would be like handing their wealth over to the enemy.
"Foreign powers have some very sophisticated tricks when it comes to stock manipulation. We can't afford to let our guard down."
Wynter glanced sideways. "This happens to be your specialty…"
Anyone in the business world knew that since Dalton was a venture capitalist on Winnow Street. After all, a single word from him could determine the rise or fall of a company.
Business circles called him the Lion of Winnow Street. As for Albert, he was the Wolf of Winnow Street. Their methods were equally ruthless, and in the world of commerce, no one dared ignore their presence.
Dalton's eyes carried a trace of a smile. "I might be out of practice now."
Wynter turned to him. "That's fine. I trust you with this."
While they were speaking, the shop owner brought out their food. Wolf, who had been slumped over the table, instantly perked up at the smell of meat. "Mmm! Meat!"
Wynter chuckled. "Go ahead. I ordered them for you."
Wolf nodded eagerly and dug in, sweeping across the dishes with his utensils. In no time, he had finished an entire plate.
Wynter handed him a napkin and wiped his mouth. "Slow down. No one's going to steal it from you."
Wolf chewed while talking. "I'm just really hungry…"
Just then, Antoine's call came in.
"Ms. Quinnell, I've arrived at the location you gave me. Where are you?" Antoine's voice came through the phone.
Wynter replied, "Stay where you are. I'll come to meet you."
After hanging up, she turned to Dalton. "I'll leave Wolf to you. I'm taking Mr. Chamberlain to meet Mr. Durand."
Dalton gave a soft nod. "Alright. I'll wait for your return."
Wynter let out a soft hum as she rose and walked toward the door. Not far off, she spotted Antoine and walked straight toward him. "Mr. Chamberlain."
Antoine turned around. "Ms. Quinnell, just say the word."
Wynter shook her head. "It's nothing urgent. I just happened to run into a group of people. They're all veterans from the Chamber of Commerce."
Antoine's eyes widened. "Really? They're still around?"
Wynter nodded. "I'll take you to them now."
"That'd be great! Please lead the way, Ms. Quinnell!" Antoine could barely contain his excitement.
So, Wynter led him to a small shop.
Inside, Conrad didn't even lift his head as he dismissed them. "We're closed for the day. Come back another time."
Antoine's voice trembled as he responded, "Conrad!"
At that, Conrad froze and looked up. "Antoine!"
Antoine and Conrad embraced tightly, overwhelmed by the moment.
Wynter didn't interrupt their reunion. Instead, she quietly took a seat and allowed them to catch up.
After a while, they walked over to her. "Ms. Quinnell."
Wynter waved a hand casually. "It's fine. Old friends ought to catch up."
Antoine said with quiet gravity, "I thought Conrad and the others were all gone. I haven't been able to reach them for years."
Conrad smiled. "A few of us started this shop here after the chamber was taken over. We never completed the mission Mr. Quinnell Senior entrusted us with, but we refused to leave. We had to wait for someone from the Quinnell family to arrive, after all."
Antoine nodded. "I feel the same. I couldn't let go, even after Charis took the chamber from us. I never planned to leave as I knew Mr. Quinnell Senior would send someone eventually."
Wynter interrupted, "Mr. Chamberlain, I have a few questions. Do you know who Charis Boso is?"
Antoine looked at her. "I do. He's the one who took the chamber from us. I've been investigating him privately for years, but there's been no trace of him. I asked the others in the chamber, too, but no one has ever seen him."
Wynter's eyes narrowed. "Does that mean Charis has never once shown his face ever since he took charge?"
Antoine said grimly, "That's right. I'm still technically a member of the chamber, but I'm not allowed access to anything. The only time they call me is for the chamber banquets."
Wynter lifted her gaze. "Banquets? Who usually gets invited?"
