The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1964

There were ten to 20 more items auctioned off this time. While this might make the auction more interesting to the guests, as far as Charis was concerned, this was the very last auction.

The auction was a good way to commit fraud and launder money, but it would not be able to hold up against scrutiny if anyone were to take it upon themselves to investigate. He was also aware that Wynter's purpose in coming to Havenia was to reclaim the Chamber of Commerce.

Therefore, he might as well kill two birds with one stone. He would not only make himself some money but also return the chamber to her. As for what became of the chamber in the future, it would be none of his concern.

After the other guests heard him bid 50 million dollars, they all exclaimed in surprise.

"Mr. Boso seldom participates in the auctions. I didn't expect him to bid 50 million dollars on Galaxy's Tears this time!"

"Ordinary gold and silver accessories have nothing on Galaxy's Tears. Rumor has it that whoever owns Galaxy's Tears will be blessed by the heavens, and everything they do will go smoothly!"

"That means Galaxy's Tears is a blessed item, in which case I'll have to fight Mr. Boso for it. 55 million dollars!"

"55 million dollars, going once! 55 million dollars, going twice! 55 million dollars—"

Before Oslo could finish, someone behind him cut him off. "58 million dollars."

Oslo looked over in the voice's direction. "Guest No. 18 has raised the bid to 58 million dollars!"

"Why is Mr. Hensley Senior interested in Galaxy's Tears? I've never seen him put in a bid before."

"Maybe Mr. Hensley Senior has heard of the legend that it can cure illnesses and avert disaster as well."

"The bid is close to 60 million dollars now. I'm a little hesitant to raise the bid any further. Although Galaxy's Tears is a priceless treasure, it's hard to place its actual market value."

Charis turned to glance at Baxter before looking away again. "60 million dollars."

"60 million dollars from Mr. Boso! Any more bids?"

Baxter had a smile on his face. "65 million dollars."

Charis' gaze deepened in contemplation. According to his estimations, no matter how priceless Galaxy's Tears was, it was worth 20 to 30 million dollars at most. Yet, Baxter kept matching his bids.

Baxter rarely attended these auctions, and he never participated in the bidding. It was because he had always had the feeling that something wasn't quite right, despite not being able to pinpoint why.

"70 million dollars," Charis declared with a sharp look at Baxter.

Baxter didn't even spare him a glance. "80 million dollars."

He looked very relaxed, which made everyone present even more certain that Galaxy's Tears was a priceless treasure.

Charis said coldly, "100 million dollars."

He couldn't let Galaxy's Tears go to anyone else. It'd be terrible if certain parties were to recognize that the Galaxy's Tears on stage was a fake.

Unbeknownst to him, Wynter had already realized that something wasn't right. She'd thus told Baxter to win the bid for Galaxy's Tears no matter how much the final bidding price was.

Before Baxter could match his bid, Charis stood up and said, "I've been looking for Galaxy's Tears all this time, Mr. Hensley Senior. Now that I've finally found it, could you please find it in yourself to part with it and let me take it home?"

Baxter turned around slightly and wagged his finger from side to side. "Unfortunately not. Let's play this out fair and square. I like Galaxy's Tears, too. Whoever manages to win the bid can claim it as their prize."

Meanwhile, the other guests had already stopped calling bids. The current bidding price was no longer at a level they could afford, so many were just sitting by to watch the show.

Baxter raised the bid by another ten million dollars without hesitation. "110 million dollars."

Charis gritted his teeth. "150 million dollars!"

Oslo's eyes were practically shining. The higher the final bid, the more generously he was rewarded, after all.

Baxter casually raised his bidding paddle. "160 million dollars."
