The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1991

Wynter needed to keep her stance clear. She needed to ensure Riley knew that her lending a hand this time was merely because she found Riley agreeable, not because she had any intention of deliberately getting close.

Riley, however, showed no signs of embarrassment and replied calmly, "Forget ten thousand—even 500 thousand dollars would be fine as long as you can resolve the troubles in my heart."

"It's not about money." Wynter lifted her brows slightly. "I have my principles. One person will only receive a single divination per day. You know well that I cannot reveal too much of the Celestial Secrets. It will affect me."

"I understand." Riley nodded quickly. "Ms. Quinnell, how about this? For the next while, I'll book you exclusively. I'll transfer you a million dollars. How does that sound?"

Wynter pretended to think about her offer for a moment. "Alright, then. Since you seem so sincere, I'll turn down the others. But I'll only help you for five days. After five days, I'll be leaving this place."

Riley's face lit up with joy. "That's no problem at all! By the way, do you have time later? I'd like to introduce you to some of my friends. They're also very interested in this sort of thing."

"No problem. When?" Wynter lifted her gaze toward her.

"Right now! My car's parked not far outside. I'll take you there!" Riley stood up quickly.

"In that case, let's set off," Wynter replied, her eyes calm.

Meanwhile, just as Dalton was about to send a message from the car, he saw Riley walking out with Wynter.

"Mr. Leprechaun, Boss is coming out." Wolf quickly pointed ahead.

Dalton gave a slight nod. "It looks like the fish has taken the bait. Let's head off first."

"Huh? Are we not waiting for her?" Wolf turned his head.

"She won't be back anytime soon. She'll come find us once she's done." Dalton's gaze lingered on Wynter, his eyes calm as water.

"Alright, then." Wolf withdrew his gaze.

Dalton signaled the driver, and the car pulled away.

At the same time, Riley pulled open the car door and turned to the side. "Ms. Quinnell, please get in."

Wynter nodded as she stepped in. Riley followed right after, instructing the driver to head toward the banquet venue.

"Ms. Quinnell, I'm bringing you to a private banquet my best friend is hosting. Not many people will be there," Riley explained, glancing at her.

Wynter closed her eyes. "Mm. It doesn't matter whether there are many or few. I'll rest a little. Wake me up when we arrive."

Although she said she wanted to rest, her thoughts were on whether she might run into someone who would recognize her at the banquet. After all, in Havenia, she carried more than one identity.

Riley nodded quickly. "Alright. I'll wake you when we get there."

The car soon pulled up before a villa.

Riley gently tapped Wynter. "Ms. Quinnell, we've arrived."

Wynter slowly opened her eyes. "Let's go."

She sensed something was wrong the moment they stepped out. A suffocating energy pressed toward her.

Looking up, she saw two stone lions flanking the main gate. What stood out, however, was that their eyes had been painted blood-red with crimson lacquer.

Stone lions at the entrance were common, usually serving to ward off evil, bring prosperity, and balance the fortune. However, these lions' painted eyes were a fortune formation known as "Blood-Eyed Guardians", an extremely malignant setup meant to suppress vengeful spirits.

"Those stone lions at the gate of your best friend's house…" Wynter began, then stopped short.

Catching her tone, Riley lowered her voice. "Ms. Quinnell, you really are amazing. I asked before, but she said her elders arranged it. She also mentioned that some unusual things had been happening in the house lately, though she didn't go into detail."

Before Wynter could respond, a voice came from the door. "Riley, you're here."

It was her friend, Belle Lorin.

Riley beamed. "How could I not come when you personally invited me?"

Belle smiled in return, then looked toward Wynter. "And this is…"

Riley took her arm. "This is Ms. Quinnell. She's incredible."

"Ms. Quinnell, what an honor to have met you. I'm Belle Lorin." Belle extended her hand.

Wynter's gaze darkened slightly. "Ms. Lorin, you flatter me. We've only just met. There'll be plenty of time for 'honor' later."

"Come, let's head inside," Riley hurriedly interrupted, tugging at Belle's arm and whispering, "Belle, fortune tellers are always like this. The stronger they are, the more unusual. You'll understand."

But Wynter did not move. "Ms. Lorin, may I ask about the story with those stone lions at your gate?"

"Oh, those? My husband had them done." Belle turned to glance back. "He said they could guard the house and ward off evil. Is there a problem with them?"

Wynter studied her deeply. "No. I just thought they were special."

The three of them stepped into the lavish mansion. The grand hall gleamed with gold and diamonds, a crystal chandelier scattering dazzling light, while priceless paintings adorned the walls.

Over 20 guests had already arrived. The men were dressed in sharp suits, and the women were adorned with jewels and elegance, mingling in small groups in conversation.

Suddenly, Wynter spotted a couple among the crowd—it was Driscoll and Celestine.

Celestine also caught sight of Wynter. Unable to hide her joy, she immediately started forward, but Driscoll quickly pulled her back.

"Darling, why are you holding me back? Ms. Quinnell is right there!" Celestine turned to him, confusion in her eyes.

Driscoll frowned. "Ms. Quinnell must have matters of her own to handle. Let's not disturb her. It won't be too late to greet her after the banquet."

From afar, Wynter saw Celestine being pulled back and instantly understood that Driscoll had realized she was here on business and deliberately stopped Celestine from approaching.

She met Driscoll's gaze for a brief moment before both of them looked away. No one could tell they knew each other.

Meanwhile, Belle tugged Riley aside to an open space. "Riley, that so-called Ms. Quinnell is really unpleasant."

"I know, but just try to understand," Riley reassured. "Didn't you tell me about the strange things happening in your house? I thought for sure it wouldn't hurt to have an expert take a look."

"She knows fortune-telling?" Belle glanced toward Wynter, then quickly looked away. "She doesn't look like any kind of medium to me."

Riley was unfazed. "You don't understand. People can't be judged by appearances. The truly skilled never flaunt it. In fact, this is my first time meeting Ms. Quinnell, and yet she saw straight into the troubles in my heart with just a few tarot cards."

Belle lifted her chin slightly. "Alright, then, how about this? I'll go on stage and introduce Ms. Quinnell later. Some of the guests here are believers. Let's have them put her skills to the test."

"Alright." Riley, though impressed by Wynter, still held some concern. "Testing her skills is fine. I've only brought her here to have a look for you, anyway."

At that moment, Driscoll quietly stopped beside Wynter. "Ms. Quinnell, what brings you here?"

"I'm investigating something," Wynter replied concisely. "It's a good thing you stopped Mrs. Maynerd just now. Otherwise, my cover would've been blown."
