Wolf, who was standing to the side, noticed the ambiguous tension between Wynter and Dalton. He squeezed between them and declared, "Mr. Leprechaun is right. I fit perfectly in the middle."
Dalton was speechless. He looked directly at Wolf and commented lightly, "You still remember what I said in the car."
Wynter looked amused. "I'm going to be paying a visit to the Patsy residence tomorrow, Wolf. You stay with Mr. Leprechaun and listen to what he says."
Wolf tilted his head. "Okay. I'll listen to him if you tell me to, Boss."
Wynter then stood up and said, "Have a good night's rest. We'll still have to search for clues tomorrow, so you two should get some sleep as well."
The night was long, but Wynter fell asleep soon after getting into bed.
When she next woke up, the sun was already shining through her window. She slowly opened her eyes. After glancing at the time, she got up and went to wash up.
"You're awake," commented Dalton.
He'd gotten up earlier than her and had already gotten someone to buy breakfast. "Go wash up, then come have breakfast."
Wynter nodded. "Okay."
After some time, she sat down in a chair. Seeing this, Dalton said slowly, "You can just head directly to the Patsy residence later. I'll think of a way to deal with Aidan."
Wynter hummed in acknowledgement before taking a bite of her food. "I don't know how things are going on Mr. Munn Senior's end. It's a little restricting to not have law enforcement rights in Havenia."
Dalton hunched his shoulders. "We can only wait. Things like this can't be rushed."
Wynter looked up slightly. "True. Let's look around for clues first."
The two of them ate quickly. After they tidied up, Wolf walked into the room with bleary eyes. "Did both of you also just wake up, Boss?"
Wynter chuckled. "On the contrary, we've already had breakfast. Go and wash up. Once you're done, you should get ready to leave."
Wolf nodded, rubbing his eyes, and walked off in the bathroom's direction.
After a while, the three of them walked out of the house and toward an SUV parked at the entrance. They then set off toward the address Riley provided.
Just then, Wynter's phone started ringing. She glanced down and saw that it was Jackson calling her.
"For you to be calling me so early in the morning, do you bring good news, Mr. Munn Senior?" she asked calmly.
Jackson chuckled. When he spoke, his voice sounded a little nasally. "It's not confirmed just yet, but there's a high probability we'll be getting those law enforcement rights. We simply have to wait for the approval now."
Wynter's gaze turned slightly more intent. "It's alright. Things will be much easier once we have law enforcement rights.
"I'm currently on the way to the residence of Aidan Patsy, the Customs Enforcement Division's director, to see if I can find any clues. How's the investigation going on your end?"
Jackson replied in a low voice, "You don't have to worry about my side of things. There's just one last big shot we haven't caught, but we'll probably get him soon. He can't sit still anymore, either. When he gives himself away, it'll be our cue to apprehend him."
Wynter lowered her gaze and said gently, "I wish you great success, Mr. Munn Senior, but please also pay attention to your health. Once I'm done taking care of things on my end, I'll go back to check on your recovery."
Jackson didn't want her to be distracted, so he chided lightly, "Focus on your own matters first, young lady. You don't have to worry about things on this side.
"Alright, go on now. I also have some matters to deal with. I'll inform you once you've been granted law enforcement rights by sending someone to seek you out."
After Wynter replied with an okay, the two of them exchanged a few pleasantries before hanging up.
As soon as the call ended, the SUV came to a stop, and their driver—Vincenzo Cruz—announced, "We're here."
Upon hearing this, Wynter opened the car door and stepped out. "Go on ahead. I'll go in first and have a look around."
Dalton's gaze was intense. "Okay. Take care of yourself. I'll come pick you up once you're done."
After the SUV had driven off, Wynter turned to look at the three-story detached villa in front of her. She felt a weak energy fluctuation coming from it.
The gray-white outer wall gleamed a cold light under the sun. There were also two stone lions to either side of the doorway, but unlike at the Rolland residence, their eyes weren't painted red. She couldn't find anything wrong with the geomantic layout at the entrance.
Soon, she walked up to the door and rang the doorbell.
After ringing the doorbell three times, Riley opened the door with a demure smile on her face. The faint tightness in her jaw and the fine wrinkles at the corners of her eyes couldn't hide the traces of age in her face.
Riley inclined her head slightly and greeted in a respectful tone, "Hello, Ms. Quinnell. Please come in."
Wynter nodded and stepped into the room. As soon as she entered, she quickly swept her gaze over the entire space. The high-ceilinged living room, the marble floor, the crystal chandelier—every item in the room highlighted its owner's wealth.
Riley poured out a glass of water and handed it to her. "I didn't expect you to be so punctual, Ms. Quinnell. You're different from other geomancers.
"I invited one to my house before, but he didn't show up despite my waiting from morning till afternoon for him. In the end, he called to tell me that he was so busy he forgot about our appointment…"
Wynter's gaze was calm. "I'm different from the others. By the way, with all due respect, the three-story detached villa and all the furnishings in this room don't seem affordable for Mr. Patsy with his salary…"
Riley stiffened at that, a hint of nervousness showing on her face. "His parents left these things to him. He's their only son, after all. I was also stunned when I first moved in here, but I've gotten used to it over time."
She then changed the subject and asked, "Shall we begin now, Ms. Quinnell?"
Wynter smiled, looking unhurried. "There's no rush. Have you been experiencing frequent headaches recently? Are you prone to having vivid dreams and waking up often at night?"
Riley was visibly startled, after which she nodded emphatically. "Could you tell just like that, Ms. Quinnell? You're spot-on.
"My husband told me they were just symptoms of menopause, but I don't think the problem lies with me. I visited a friend's house a while ago and slept especially well there."
Wynter didn't reply. Instead, she stood up and walked slowly to the center of the living room. When she stepped on the marble floor, it emitted a dull sound.
She glanced around, then looked at Riley. "It hasn't been two years since this house was renovated, right? Did the designers tell you and Mr. Patsy that a doorway facing floor-to-ceiling windows can shield the house from cold wind and gather energy?"
Riley's eyes widened. "Yes. How did you know, Ms. Quinnell?"
Wynter lowered her gaze. "Because that's what laymen would do."
She pointed toward the floor-to-ceiling windows. "Air will flow directly into and out of the house, just as your wealth will come and go. It'll be very hard for you to retain that wealth. More importantly…"
She paused and narrowed her eyes, then continued, "This layout has evoked the tunnel draft taboo. Not only will the house's owner lose money, but it'll also affect their health."
Riley instantly paled, and she subconsciously tangled her fingers together. Wynter was absolutely correct.
Before moving into this house, Riley had owned a company of her own, and it had made a decent profit. However, after moving in, her company had declined steadily and declared bankruptcy. From then on, she'd been financially reliant on Aidan.
She looked up at Wynter. "Then… Then, what should I do? How do I resolve this, Ms. Quinnell? You must tell me."
Wynter cut her off, glancing toward an inconspicuous surveillance camera in the corner. "First, please take me to see the other rooms. Geomancy places importance on overall coordination, so I need to understand the entire house's geomantic layout."
Riley nodded vigorously. "Please follow me. I'll show you around the house."
Once Wynter had viewed all the rooms on the second floor, she stood in the corridor and looked toward a room at the very end of it. "What's this room?"
