The heavy shadow lunged at me in the dark room, and I closed my eyes tightly, waiting for the painful blow. I pressed Amelia against my chest so hard I was afraid I would hurt her.
But instead of a strike, a loud, fleshy thud echoed through the bedroom. “Ugh!” the intruder groaned painfully.
I opened my eyes quickly. Another large figure had appeared from the darkness of the hallway, slamming the bad guy face- first into the wall. It was a brutal, fast attack.
The second man threw a hard punch to the intruder’s jaw, and then another to his stomach, knocking him completely
unconscious.
The bad guy crumpled to the hardwood floor like a sack of potatoes, not moving at all. I sat there gasping for air, my whole body shaking uncontrollably.
The savior turned around slowly, the dim light hitting his face. I gasped in recognition. He was one of Brandon’s personal bodyguards, a man named Leo who usually stood by the front gates of his estate.
Leo stepped over the unconscious body on the floor and walked toward my corner. He bent down slightly, keeping his hands open so he wouldn’t scare me. “Are you alright, Miss Aria? Did he touch you or the baby?”
“No,” I whispered, my voice completely cracked and raw. Tears were still pouring down my cheeks, and my chest felt incredibly tight. “No, we are fine. How… how did you get inside?”
Leo reached out and helped me stand up from the
floor, making sure I had my balance while holding a crying Amelia.
“Mr. Brandon ordered me to follow your taxi last night,” Leo/explained softly. “He told me to park outside and watch your
were walking into. When I saw this guy breaking your lock, I ran building. He said you were too angry to see the danger you we up as fast as I could.”
If this had happened a few hours ago, I would have been furious. I would have screamed at the thought of Brandon sending a spy to follow me and keep tabs on my life.
But right now? Looking at the broken door and the dangerous man on the floor, my heart was filled with pure overwhelming gratitude.
r
Even though a big part of me was still mad at Brandon for keeping secrets, I knew my baby and I would be dead right now if he hadn’t cared enough to watch over us.
“Thank you, Leo,” I breathed, rocking a crying Amelia against my shoulder.
Leo nodded respectfully. “I will handle the police and get this man out of here, Miss. But you need to rest.”
The rest of the night passed in a blurry fog. I barely slept a wink, jumping at every tiny sound inside the apartment.
The next morning, the sun rose over a cold city. I packed Amelia back into her warm clothes and headed straight to my father’s corporate lawyer’s office. I had a clear goal in my mind.
I was going to tell the lawyer to completely remove Brandon from all of our legal proceedings. He was no longer our ally. was going to handle this court case against the board members completely on my own.

But the moment the elevator doors slid open of the executive floor, my heart stopped. Brandon was there.

He was stepping out of the lawyer’s private office, buttoning his dark suit jacket. He looked tired, with deep lines of exhaustion around his eyes, she still carried that powerful aura that made everyone in the room look at him.
Our eyes met instantly. He took a long step toward me, his lips parting. “Aria. We need to talk about last night…”
I didn’t let him finish. The gratitude from the night before suddenly twisted back into a hot surge of anger and betrayal. Did he come here to sabotage my case?
Was he already working with his father to ruin my chances?
I tightly gripped my purse, looked away, and brushed right past his shoulder without saying a single word. I slammed open the door to the lawyer’s office and walked inside angrily, leaving Brandon standing alone in the hallway.
“Ah, Miss Aria,” the lawyer said, rising from his leather chair with a massive smile on his face. He didn’t look stressed at all. In fact, he looked absolutely thrilled. “You just missed Mr. Brandon. I must tell you, this is a glorious morning for our case!”
I set my bag down on the chair, my face hard. “I don’t care about Brandon. I want him completely out of this case, corporate or otherwise. He cannot be trusted.”
The lawyer blinked in complete surprise, his smile faltering. “Why would you want that? Miss Aria, you do not understand. Mr. Brandon came here this morning to offer us everything we needed to win.”
I froze, looking at the lawyer in utter confusion. “What do
you mean?”
The lawyer picked up a thick, heavy stack of documents from his desk. “He just handed over the private financial files of every single board member who tried to steal your father’s company. He listed every single obstacle we were going to face. Look at this, he provided hard evidence that all of your father’s shares and rights they currently possess were acquired through illegal, dubious means.”
The lawyer chuckled happily, tapping the papers. “He even included his own father’s private bank accounts to prove the fraud. He ruined his own family’s position to give you the upper hand. The case is officially fit to be filed in court, Aria. We have more than enough evidence to destroy them now. We are going to win.”
My mind went completely blank. A wave of intense confusion and guilt settled heavily in my stomach. I truly thought Brandon had come here to ruin my life and protect his father.
But instead, he had come to give me the ultimate weapon to win my way.
r I mumbled a quick goodbye to the lawyer and practically ran out of the office. When I stepped out onto the snowy street outside the building, I saw Brandon. He hadn’t left.
He was waiting for me, leaning against the door of his sleek black car with his hands shoved deep into his pockets.
I swallowed the lump in my throat and walked over to him. I tried to maintain my tough posture, but it was crumbling fast.
“The lawyer told me what you did,” I said quietly, looking down at my shoes. “I am… appreciative of your efforts, Brandon. Thank you for the evidence, and thank you for sending Leo last night. But nothing romantic can happen between us anymore. We are done.”
Brandon’s expression changed instantly. The soft look in his eyes vanished, replaced by a cold, hard mask. He looked at my empty hands, then looked around the street.
“Where is Amelia, Aria?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
“She is safe,” I said, defensive.

Where is she?” he demanded, stepping closer.
“I left her with a neighbor in my building.” I argued, crossing my arms. “I had to come to this meeting quickly

Brandon’s jaw tightened so hard I thought it would snap. He raised his voice, his tone vibrating with pure anger and
disbelief.
“A neighbor? You entrusted a baby who is barely month old to a complete stranger because of your stupid quest for revenge? Are you out of your mind?”
“She is not a stranger, she lives on my floor!” I yelled back, tears of frustration gathering in my eyes. “And you have absolutely no right to judge me, Brandon! If you hadn’t given me reasons to doubt your loyalty, if you hadn’t hidden the truth about your father from the very beginning, I wouldn’t be out here on the streets, desperate to win this case quickly so I can be safe!”
Brandon stared at me for a long, silent moment. The anger in his eyes slowly turned into something heavy and exhausted. He let out a long breath, the steam rising in the cold air between us.
“Let me handle it, Aria,” he said softly, his voice dropping into a firm, commanding tone.
“Handle what?”
“The entire case. The board members. My father. All of it,” Brandon said, stepping so close I could feel the heat radiating from his chest. “I will make sure you get every single share, every single dollar, and every piece of your father’s company back within the space of exactly one month. I swear it to you.”
He reached out, his thumb gently brushing a stray
tear from cold cheek.

“Just trust me to handle the war,” he whispered painfully. “And you go back home, stay inside where it is warm, and just focus on caring for yourself and Amelia. Please.”
