Brandon looked at me for a long moment, seeing the stubborn look on my face. He let out a slow breath and held his hands up in defeat.
“I won’t pressure you, Aria,” he said, his voice softening. “You will go back when you are ready. But you have been stressing yourself out way too much lately between this bakery and the night reports. I want to take you out on a date tonight. Just to get you out of this store and help clear your head.”
I paused, staring at him curiously. I raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out what he was up to. Brandon was not the outgoing type at all. He was a man of routine, business, and strict privacy.
For him to randomly show up and offer to take me on a date was highly questionable. “A date?” I asked, leaning against the counter. “Since when do you do dates, Brandon?”
A tiny, amused smirk played on his lips. “Don’t worry about it. It’s just a dinner date. No pressure. And you don’t have to worry about a babysitter either. Amelia will stay with my head housekeeper for the evening. She’s already on her way.”
I thought about it for a few seconds. My shoulders were tight from lifting heavy flour bags, and my brain was tired from staring at financial spreadsheets late at night.
A break actually sounded nice. “Okay,” I finally agreed, giving him a small smile. “I’ll go.”
“Good. I’ll pick you up at your apartment by 7:00 PM,” he said. He stood up from the stool, walked to the back room to give Amelia a tight hug goodbye, and then left the bakery.
By 6:30 PM, Brandon’s housekeeper arrived at my apartment. She was a kind, older woman who Amelia already knew and loved, so I knew my daughter was in safe hands.
Just as I was about to go to my room to figure out what to wear, the doorbell rang. A delivery man was standing outside holding a massive bouquet of red roses and a large, elegant clothing box.
“For Miss Aria,” the man said politely. I took the items inside and opened the box on my bed. Inside was a beautiful dress, made of a rich fabric that felt incredibly soft to the touch.
The gesture was definitely questionable. Brandon was acting entirely different today, and it made my heart beat a little faster. But it was also incredibly sweet, so I decided to just go with the flow and enjoy the night
I put on the dress, did my makeup lightly, and let my hair fall down my shoulders. Exactly at 7:00 PM, a car honked outside.
I said goodbye to Amelia and the housekeeper, took a deep breath, and walked out of the building
Brandon was leaning against his car, waiting for me.
Instead of his usual black attire, he was wearing a perfectly tailored dark blue suit that made his broad shoulders look even wider The moment I walked down the steps, his posture changed.

He froze, his jaw dropping slightly as his dark eyes scanned me from head to toe. He looked completely
breathless.
“Aria,” he said, his deep voice sounding a bit rough as he opened the passenger door for me. “You look… absolutely beautiful. The dress looks perfect on you.”
“Thank you,” I blushed, stepping into the car. “You look pretty good yourself in blue.”
We drove through the city streets in a comfortable silence, but when we pulled up to the venue, my eyes widened. It was a famous five–star restaurant located on a rooftop overlooking the city lights.
As we walked inside, I noticed something strange. The entire place was completely empty. There were no other customers, no chatter, and no background noise except for soft piano music playing through the speakers.
“Brandon, where is everyone?” I asked as the waiter led us to a beautifully set table by the glass window.
“I booked the entire restaurant just for the two of us,” he replied calmly, pulling out my chair for me. “I wanted us to have total privacy. No distractions.”
I sat down, completely stunned by the effort he had put into this. Soon, the food was served, and it looked delicious. But as we began to eat, I quickly noticed that Brandon wasn’t really focused on his plate.
In fact, he barely touched his food at all. It was very strange. Every time I looked up, his dark eyes were locked onto my face. It was as if staring at me was far more important to him than the expensive meal in front of him.
The intensity of his gaze made a familiar warmth rush up my neck. I tried to ignore it, but the quiet air between us was growing thicker by the second.
Suddenly, Brandon reached his large hand across the small table. His fingers were warm as he gently brushed a few stray strands of hair away from my face, tucking them behind my ear.
His touch lingered on my cheek for a second too long. I had to pause. I set my fork down and looked at him, my heart hammering against my ribs.
“Brandon… What are you up to tonight? You’re acting really differently.” The look in his eyes right now was strangely soft, completely stripping away the cold, tough businessman persona he always wore.
