The door closed behind her. I stood there staring at it long after she had gone. “Fuck.”
The curse slipped out under my breath as I dragged a hand through my hair. My chest felt tight, like the air in the room had suddenly become too thick to breathe.
That hadn’t gone the way I wanted. My intention

of pretending I didn’t care while she kept was tired of keeping it in.
Tired of pretending. Tired of watching her give pieces of herself to someone who didn’t deserve it.
Still…I exhaled slowly, rubbing the back of my neck. I hadn’t expected her to look at me the way she did before she ran out.
Like I was dangerous. Like I was something she needed to escape from. The thought irritated me more than I wanted to admit. But if I was honest with myself….I didn’t regret what I said.
Not entirely. Now she knew. Now she knew how I felt. Now she understood why I didn’t want her

Why the thought of her running back to him made my patience disappear. Now that the truth was out, there was no turning back. Whether she believed me or not didn’t matter anymore.
I had made my choice. And I wasn’t letting her walk back into Luca’s life again. Not even if I had to protect her from herself. Even against her will.
My phone suddenly buzzed in my pocket, pulling me out of my thoughts. I frowned when I saw the name on the screen. Father. Great. I answered the call. “Yes?”
“Come home.” No greeting. No explanation. Just the order. My J
tightened slightly.
“Not anymore,” he replied calmly. “You’re coming home. Immediately.” That tone told me everything I needed to know. Something had happened. And judging by the tension in his voice…. It wasn’t going to be pleasant.
“Fine,” I muttered before ending the call.
Twenty minutes later, I was pulling into the driveway of the Vance estate. The massive gates closed behind my car as I parked and stepped out.
The house stood tall and imposing in front of me, exactly the way it always had. Cold. Impressive.
And completely devoid of warmth. The moment
stepped inside, the first person I saw was my mother.
Of course. She was already walking toward me before the door even fully closed behind me.

Her expression was sharp with disapproval. “Julian.”
Her tone alone told me I wasn’t going to enjoy this conversation. “You’ve bee

“I’ve been busy.”

“With what?” she asked coldly. “Abandoning your responsibilities as the future head of the Vance family?” I didn’t respond. Her eyes narrowed. “All because of that girl you decided to bring into your apartment.”
There it was. I should’ve known. “Aria has nothing to do with this,” I said flatly.
“Oh, she has everything to do with it.” Before I could respond, another voice cut through the room. “Oh, she has everything to do with it” Before
“Julian.” My father stepped into the hallway. Tall. everyone in the room instinctively straighten.

I respected him. But right now, I already knew where this conversation was going. “Your mother tells me you’ve been distracted lately.”
I folded my arms. “I’m managing.
“Are you?” he asked. His gaze was steady.
Calculating. “You’re supposed to be focusing on your studies. On preparing yourself to manage a billion- dollar conglomerate one day.”
“I am.”
“Then explain why your attention seems to be centered around a girl.” My jaw tightened.
“She’s not the issue.”
“Oh, she is,” my mother
Cut in quickly. “She’s a girl connected to the Moretti family.”
The name hung in the air like poison. My father’s expression hardened slightly. “And that,” he said calmly,

I let out a quiet breath. Here we go. “If you cannot focus on your college education,” he continued, “and if your judgment is being compromised by… distractions…”
His gaze sharpened. “Then I will have no choice but to change your
school.”
My eyes narrowed slightly. “That won’t be necessary.”
“We’ll see. Then he added the part I had been expecting. “In the meantime, the girl needs to leave your apartment.”
Silence fell. “I don’t want you associating yourself with anyone connected to the Morettis.” My chest went cold. Of course. This had my mother written all over it.
She stood there quietly, pretending she hadn’t influenced the conversation. But I knew her well enough to
ce the satisfaction hiding behind her expression.

My father turned to leave. “Handle it,” he said simply before walking away. The moment he disappeared down the hallway, I turned to my mother.

She met my gaze calmly. “Don’t look at me like that,” she said lightly. “You know I only want what’s best for
you.
I let out a humorless laugh. “What’s best for me?”
