ARIA’S POV

I didn’t look back. Not once.

The taxi driver loaded my suitcase into the trunk while I stood there clutching my bag like it was the only thing holding me together.

“Where to?” he asked. My lips parted but for a second, no words came out. Because I didn’t know. I didn’t know where I was going. I just knew I couldn’t stay.

“Just drive,” I said quietly. “I’ll tell you.”

He nodded and got into the car. I slid into the backseat, my fingers gripping the edge of my dress as the building slowly disappeared behind us.

But halfway down the street, I spoke again. “Wait.”

The taxi slowed. “I need to stop somewhere first.”

The hotel. Of course. If I was leaving this city, I wasn’t going to leave loose ends behind.

I couldn’t. So ten minutes later, the taxi pulled up in front of the building that had once given me some form of stability. Now it felt like a place I didn’t belong.

I stepped out slowly, ignoring the familiar looks, the whispers that immediately started the moment people recognized me.

My chest tightened but I forced myself to walk in.

I put my head down and my heart was numb. I didn’t go to the front desk. I didn’t speak to anyone.

I simply walked straight to the administrative office and dropped the envelope on the secretary’s desk. “My resignation,” I said quietly.

She stared at me, clearly recognizing me, her lips parting like she wanted to say something but I didn’t wait. I turned and walked out before anyone could stop me.

Before anyone could humiliate me again. Before I changed my mind. Because this… this chapter of my life was over. Completely.

Back in the taxi, I exhaled shakily. “Let’s go to the airport.” The driver nodded and started the engine.

I leaned back against the seat, closing my eyes briefly.

Maybe this was it. Maybe leaving was the only way I could survive. Maybe if I started over somewhere else, I could forget everything.

Forget the pain. Forget the humiliation. Forget him. My thoughts were interrupted when the crash happened.

Chapter 79

It was so fast I didn’t even process it.

One second, we were driving. The next-SCREECH! A deafening sound tore through the air.

“Watch it-!” BANG.

The force slammed my body forward violently. My head snapped to the side as the car jerked hard, metal grinding against metal.

My scream got stuck in my throat. Everything spun. The glass shattered, voices blurred. And then, there was darkness.

When I woke up, everything hurt. My head throbbed. My body felt heavy. My vision blurred in and out before finally settling. White ceiling. Beeping machines. The faint smell of antiseptic.

I was in a hospital. Panic shot through me instantly. My hands flew to my stomach. “My baby-”

“It’s fine.” The deep voice froze me. I turned my head slowly. And my breath stopped. It was him.

The same man from last night.

He stood by the window in a black tailored suit, his posture calm, composed like none of this affected him at all. But his eyes….they were on me.

Watching. Studying. Like I was something important. My heart began to race. “You…” I whispered.

He didn’t move. “The baby is fine,” he repeated calmly. “You have a mild concussion. Nothing life- threatening.”

Relief crashed into me so hard I almost cried. “My baby…” I breathed, closing my eyes briefly. “Thank God…”

“But the driver,” he added. My eyes snapped open. “He’s in critical condition.”

My chest tightened painfully. “Oh my God…”

Silence filled the room for a moment. Then the doctor walked in, checking my vitals, asking a few questions, assuring me I would be fine.

I answered automatically, barely paying attention.

Because the moment the doctor left, everything changed. I turned sharply to the man. Anger surged through me so suddenly it shocked even me.

“What is wrong with you?!” I snapped. He raised a brow slightly. “You could have killed someone!” I continued, my voice shaking with fury. “You could have killed me! My baby was in that car!”

His expression didn’t change. “My driver was responsible—”

“I don’t care whose driver it was!” I cut in. “Your convoy caused that crash!”

For a second, silence stretched between us. Then he sighed faintly. “You’re right.” That caught me off guard.

“My driver was at fault,” he admitted calmly. “And I’ve already taken responsibility for the damages.”

I stared at him, my anger faltering slightly. But only slightly. Then suspicion crept in. My eyes narrowed. “Why are you even here?”

He didn’t answer immediately. And that made it worse. My grip tightened on the hospital sheet. “First the park, then your apartment, now this?”

His gaze met mine fully. Slow. Calculated. “Are you stalking me?” I asked bluntly.

A faint smirk touched his lips. “If I were,” he said calmly, “you wouldn’t be asking that question.” My stomach twisted. “I had an urgent flight,” he continued. “Same destination you were heading to.”

I froze. “What?”

He tilted his head slightly. “Coincidences happen.” I didn’t believe that. Not even for a second. But before I could say anything else, he turned and walked toward the door.

“I’ll handle the hospital bills,” he said over his shoulder. “Rest.”

And just like that, he left.

Hours passed. I lay there staring at the ceiling, my thoughts a tangled mess. Everything that had happened. Julian. The video. The humiliation.

The crash. It all felt unreal. Like my life was spiraling into something I couldn’t control anymore. I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t even notice when the door opened again.

Until his voice filled the room. “I have a proposal.”

I turned my head slowly. He was back. Same calm expression. Same unreadable eyes.
