Chapter 86

Chapter 86

ARIA’S POV

The moment I saw my father’s name, everything inside me shifted.

It wasn’t just a surprise. It wasn’t just confusion. It was something deeper, something that felt like being pulled backward into a past I had tried so hard to bury.

My fingers tightened around the document as memories resurfaced, sharp and uninvited.

I remembered overhearing conversations I wasn’t meant to hear. Julian and Blake, speaking in low voices, mentioning a project, something big, something important. At the time, I hadn’t paid much attention. I hadn’t understood.

I remember wanting to know more but I hadn’t pressed. Julian had said it was not something important but this document was proof that it was.

The memory haunted me.

And before that, there was my father.

A faint, distant memory flickered in my mind. His voice. His smile. The way he had looked at me one evening, tired but proud.

“I’m working on something big, Aria,” he had said.

I had asked him what it was, but he had only laughed softly, brushing it off. “You’ll understand one day.”

But I never did. Because he died with my mother and brother before that day could come.

And after his death, everything fell apart. His company, his legacy, everything he had built, it was taken away and handed over to someone else under the excuse of shares and ownership. Those were legalities I didn’t fully understand.

And they had the power that I didn’t have. I was too young. Too weak. Too alone to fight it. So I let it go. Or at least, I thought I did.

But now…now it was right in front of me.

My heart pounded harder as realization slowly crept in. This wasn’t a coincidence. It couldn’t be. My breathing became uneven as I stared at the document one last time before making a decision.

I needed answers. And there was only one person who could give them to me. I didn’t hesitate.

My feet carried me quickly down the hallway, the document clutched tightly in my hand. My thoughts raced faster with every step, my emotions tangled between anger, confusion, and something dangerously close to hope.

When I reached Brandon’s door, I knocked.

“Come in.”

His voice was calm, as always.

I pushed the door open and immediately froze.

For a moment, everything else disappeared. Because Brandon was standing there with nothing but a towel wrapped low around his waist.

My breath caught.

Water still clung to his skin, droplets trailing down his chest, his shoulders broad and bare, his posture relaxed like he had no idea what kind of effect that sight could have.

Or maybe he did. Because when his eyes met mine, there was a flicker of amusement there. Subtle. Controlled. But unmistakable.

“Something wrong?” he asked casually.

I blinked quickly, forcing myself to look away. “Why would you tell me to come in if you were like this?” I asked, my voice not as steady as I wanted it to be.

His brow lifted slightly. “Like what?”

I swallowed. “Half naked.”

A faint smirk touched his lips. “Are you upset,” he said slowly, stepping closer, “because I’m exposed or because you like what you see?”

My face heated instantly. “I-” I stopped. Because I couldn’t answer. And the worst part was that maybe he wasn’t wrong.

I tightened my grip on the document, forcing my focus back to why I came here in the first place. “This isn’t why I’m here,” I said quickly.

His expression shifted, the teasing fading just slightly. “Then why are you here?”

I stepped forward and held out the document. “This.”

He glanced at it briefly, then back at me. “What about it?”

My chest tightened. “My father’s company is mentioned in this clause.”

Silence. For a moment, he didn’t respond. And that silence made my heart race even faster. “You knew,” I said slowly. “Didn’t you?”

His gaze held mine, unreadable.

“I’ve heard about something like this before,” I continued, my voice gaining urgency. “Before my father died, he said he was working on a major project. Something big. He didn’t explain it, but-” I stopped, my throat tightening slightly.

“This is it, isn’t it?”

Brandon exhaled quietly.”It’s a large-scale project,” he said finally. “Multiple companies are involved. It’s a high-level collaboration.”

My brows furrowed. “And?”

“And every company involved benefits,” he continued calmly. “But the founder, the originator of the project, benefits the most.”

My heart skipped. “Who is the founder?”

He didn’t hesitate this time. “Your father.” The words hit me like a shockwave. For a second, I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. Couldn’t even process what I had just heard.

“My father?” I whispered. Brandon nodded once.

“But he’s-” My voice broke slightly. “He’s dead.”

“Yes.”

“Then who owns it now?” I asked, my mind scrambling to catch up.

His gaze darkened slightly. “That’s the problem.”

My stomach twisted. “What do you

mean?”

“The current ‘owner’ of your father’s company,” he said, his tone sharpening just enough to make my chest tighten, “has no idea this project exists.”

I blinked. “What?”
