Chapter 235
Aurora
Darkness swallowed me whole.
No sound.
No ground.
No air.

Just a cold, endless void pressing against my skin like water.
I didn’t know if I was standing, falling, or suspended in nothing at all. My heartbeat echoed in my skull, too loud. Too fast.
Then something shifted.
A faint glow rippled through the dark–pale, silver, flickering like moonlight reflected in water. It pulsed once. Twice. Then spread
into a faint circle beneath my feet, giving the illusion of a floor.
My breath trembled out.
“Where… am I?” My voice sounded small. Distant.
The glow responded.
It thickened.
Deepened.
Took shape.
At first, I thought it was smoke lifting from the ground. But then it rose higher, moving with intention–forming limbs, a spine, a
tail. A massive shape curled upward until it towered above me.
My throat closed.
A wolf
Not just any wolf.
My wolf.
But distorted.
Magnified.

More brutal than I had ever imagined myself.

Her fur was black, so dark it seemed to swallow the light. Her eyes glowed a molten, primal gold, flickering like fire. Her teeth–too sharp. Her claws–too long. Her breath echoed through the space like a low growl rolling through stone.
She stared at me.
Unblinking.
Unmoving.
Waiting.
My heart slammed against my ribs. “This–this isn’t real,” I whispered.
Her lips peeled back from her teeth in a silent snarl.
Not real?
She disagreed.
She stepped forward, the floor vibrating beneath her weight. I stumbled back instinctively, but there was nowhere to go- the
darkness stretched in every direction.
“I don’t want to fight you,” I whispered, holding up my hands, though they shook. “I’m not here to hurt you.”
The wolf growled, a deep, resonant sound that sent a shiver down my spine.
Not here to hurt her?
But she had been hurt.
Ignored.
Denied.
Pushed aside every time I ran from the truth of what I was.
She lunged.
I gasped, stumbling back as she stopped inches from my face–her breath hot, her eyes glowing with something more than anger.
Accusation.
“You’re part of me,” I breathed, my voice shaking. “I know that. I just… I don’t know how to handle you.”
She circled me, slow and predatory, her tail brushing the darkness like it tore through fabric.

Chapter 235
My pulse wouldn’t settle.
Her voice wasn’t words–but it pressed into my mind, raw emotion forcing itself into my thoughts.
You fear me.
My chest tightened. “I’m not afraid of you-”
A lie.

She lunged again, this time slamming her paws onto the glowing ground in front of me so hard the light fractured outward. A sharp
cry tore from my throat as I fell to my knees, hands trembling against the cold surface.
The wolf leaned down, eyes inches from mine.
You fear what you will become when you’re me.
Tears stung my eyes.
I swallowed hard. “I fear losing control.”
Her growl softened–not gentle, not kind… but true.
Then learn to control me.
The darkness rippled.
A wind that wasn’t wind rushed past, swirling around us, tugging at my hair, my clothes, my thoughts.
The wolf lifted her head and howled–a long, haunting sound that vibrated through my bones. The glow beneath us surged upward,
wrapping around her like liquid silver.
Her shape flickered.
Shifted.
Collapsed inward.
Until she wasn’t a wolf at all.
A girl stood there instead.
My age.
My bright.
My face–but wilder. Cracked with moonlight. Hair whipping in an unseen wind. Eyes still gold, but now human–shaped, burning with feral intelligence.

She stepped close, so close our foreheads nearly touched.
“You deny me,” she whispered–this time with a voice, soft and echoing. “And denying me is denying you.”
My throat closed.
“You are not whole without me.”
The air trembled.

She lifted her hand and pressed two fingers against the center of my chest. A jolt shot through me–not painful, but overwhelming,
like magic and instinct fusing.
My breath hitched.
My vision blurred.
“Embrace me…” she murmured. “Or I will tear through you.”
The ground buckled beneath us.
Then-
The world shattered into blinding light.
The room dissolved.
Or maybe I did.
I wasn’t sure where my body ended or where the darkness began. Everything stretched and folded at once–like being pulled
through water and smoke and lightning.
Then-
A heartbeat.
Not mine.
Thud.
A second heartbeat.
Also not mine.
Thud.
Then my own.

Chapter 235
The three sounds overlapped, weaving together until I couldn’t tell which belonged to me and which didn’t.
Light cracked open around me.
Not light–visions.
A woman.
Standing at the edge of the same forest I had just walked through. She looked over her shoulder, face tight, eyes wild with
determination… and fear. She clutched something to her chest. Something wrapped. Something small.
The vision swallowed itself, replaced by another-
A Lycan.

Massive. Shifting mid–run, fury burning through him, shadows clinging to his skin like a second form. His snarl vibrated through the
very air. His eyes–my eyes–blazed gold.
And then another-
A witch.
Not the leader. Younger. Fierce. Her hands glowed white–hot. She fought something unseen, screaming a spell through bloodied
teeth.
Lightning connected all three.
It hit my chest like a brand.
A voice–everywhere and nowhere–whispered:
“You are the bridge.”
The floor vanished beneath me.
I fell-
Through the vision
through myself
through the pulsing white heat in my veins-
-and slammed back into my body.
My eyes ripped open.
The stone chamber returned in a violent rush, air burning in my lungs. I was lying flat on the cold floor, palms splayed, heart

hammering like it was trying to escape.
The witch leader stood over me, her expression unreadable but sharder than before.

Zayn was still restrained by invisible magic–but he was straining forward now, teeth bared, panicked. “What did you do to her?!”
I pushed myself up on shaking elbows.
Everything felt… doubled.
No–tripled.
Like three sets of instincts were trying to breathe through one ribcage.
The leader tilted her head, studying me with unsettling curiosity.
“Well,” she murmured, almost impressed.
“That was not supposed to happen.”
“What?” I croaked, throat raw.
She crouched in front of me, eyes glowing faint silver.
“You touched all three threads,” she said.
“Your bloodline. The wolf. And the magic.”
My pulse stumbled.
“I didn’t just test you,” she continued.
“You merged with them.”
Zayn froze.
I froze.
The leader straightened, dusting off her hands like she’d just finished a simple chore.
“Congratulations,” she said softly.
“You are no longer just looking for your mother.”
Her eyes locked on mine.
“You are becoming what she died to protect.”
