“He did,” Zayn said quietly. There was no hesitation in his voice, no doubt. Just certainty. “My father is a monster. And if we don’t
stop him, he’ll do much worse.”
I turned to look at him then. His jaw was tight, his eyes dark with something that went far deeper than anger. This wasn’t just fear
or rage—this was experience. The kind that comes from growing up knowing exactly what someone is capable of.
I didn’t argue. I couldn’t. Because I knew he was right.
Everything we had seen so far, everything we had learned–it all pointed to the same truth. The auction house. The way things were
hidden so carefully, erased so completely. None of it was random. None of it was accidental.
And if he ever found out I was alive-
If he found out what I was.
If he found out I was his son’s mate-
My chest tightened at the thought. I didn’t say it out loud, but the conclusion settled heavily in my mind. He wouldn’t hesitate. He
wouldn’t negotiate. He would remove the problem.
Me.
I swallowed, my fingers curling slowly in my lap as the weight of it all pressed down on me.
“Do you remember anything?” Cecilia asked softly, her eyes on me now.
I shook my head before she even finished the question. “No,” I said quietly, “Nothing.”
I took a breath, trying to keep my voice steady. “I was found on a bridge when I was ten. I didn’t know where I came from, or what
happened before that. I only knew my name.” My fingers twisted together in my lap as I went on. “Some people found me. They
took me in. They named me Aurora. They raised me. They were my parents in every way that mattered.”
I glanced down for a moment, then back up at her. “I thought that was my whole story.”
I swallowed. “Later, I enrolled in the academy. A werewolf academy. didn’t really understand what it was at first. I didn’t know
what I was walking into.” A small, shaky breath left me. “Until recently, I didn’t even know what I was. Not really.”
The words hung in the air between us, heavy and unfinished, like there was still so much I didn’t know how to say.
Cecilia’s hands trembled slightly around her cup as she studied my face again, like she was afraid I might disappear if she looked away for too long. Her gaze flicked briefly to Zayn, then back to me, and something unreadable passed through her expression.
“There’s something I need to ask you,” she said quietly.

I andded. My heart was already racing, like it knew what was coming before my mind did.
She hesitated, then asked anyway, “You’re… mated. To him.”

It sewen’t phrend like a question. It was more like confirmation of something she had already felt the moment she looked at us
together
I swallowed and nodded once, “Yes.”

Her eyes closed for a second. Just a second. When she opened them again, they were shiny, but she didn’t cry.
“I thought so,” she murmured. “The bond is… obvious. Even to me.”
Zayn shifted slightly beside me but stayed silent, giving us space without leaving. I was grateful for that.
Cecilia let out a slow breath and looked down at her tea. “It makes sense,” she said, more to herself than to me. “Cruel, in a way.
But it makes senise.”
I frowned, “What does?”
She lifted her gaze back to me. “Pate,” she said simply. “It has a sense of humor. A dark one.”
I didn’t know what to say to that, so I didn’t try. Instead, I asked the question that had been sitting heavy in my chest since the
moment 1 learned his name.
“My real father,” I said carefully. “Theron. What was he like?”
Her face softened instantly.
“He was kind,” she said without hesitation. “Too kind for his own good sometimes. He carried the weight of his title like it was a responsibility, not a privilege.” A faint, sad smile touched her lips. “He listened more than he spoke. And when he loved… he loved
deeply,”
I nodded, absorbing every word like it was something sacred.
“Ile would’ve loved you,” she added quietly. “I know that doesn’t mean much, considering everything, but it’s true.”
“It means a lot,” I said, my voice rougher than I meant it to be.
She studied me for a moment, then said,
“You have his eyes.”
I blinked. “My eyes?”
She nodded slowly. “Not the color. The way they look at people. Like you’re always trying to understand what’s underneath.”
That made my throat tighten.

I shifted slightly on the couch, then said, “There’s something else I need to tell you. Something I heard…”
Her brows drew together. “When?”
“At the academy,” I said. “During the winter dance.”
Zayn’s posture stiffened slightly beside me, but he didn’t interrupt.

I took a breath and continued. “I wasn’t feeling well, so I stepped ou for a moment. I was heading toward the bathroom when I
heard voices coming from one of the classrooms.”
Cecilia went very still.
“They were talking quietly,” I went on. “Like they didn’t think anyone else was around. I wasn’t trying to listen, but then I heard
your name.”
Her fingers tightened around the cup.
“They said ‘Cecilia,“” I repeated. “And then something about her being… involved. About how things ‘got back then.“”
The room felt smaller as the words settled between us.
“I didn’t hear much more,” I said. “I didn’t stay long. But it stuck with me. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
I looked straight at her. “Do you know what they meant?”
For a long moment, she didn’t answer.
Then she set her cup down carefully, like she needed both hands free to steady herself.
“Yes,” she said quietly. “I know.”
My chest tightened. “Can you tell me?”
She glanced briefly at Zayn.
“It’s alright,” I said quickly. “He already knows… most of it.”
Zayn nodded once, expression serious.
Cecilia exhaled slowly. “People talk,” she said. “Especially when they don’t have the full story. Especially when fear is involved.”
