Chapter 325
1 flinched at the mockery, my face heating. “I-I just needed to know-”
“Oh, of course,” he interrupted again, stepping closer until I could feel the heat radiating off him. “Because going all the way up there, in the middle of the night, alone… that’s a brilliant idea! Should I put a tracker h your ass next time? So I know where my precious little idiot is sneaking off to?”
I opened my mouth again, but no words came. My chest tightened, my hands balling into fists at my sides.
He let out a low, amused chuckle, but it was edged with that furious energy that made me shiver. Then, without another word, he grabbed my wrist. Firm, unyielding.
“Come on,” he said, dragging me down the hall. I stumbled half a step before catching myself, my boots scraping softly against the carpet as I was forced to match his pace.
“Zayn-” I tried again, breathless now, my pulse roaring in my ears.
“No,” he snapped, not even looking at me. “You’re done talking.”

We moved down the hallway toward the elevator, the quiet stretching unnervingly around us. Every sound felt amplified-the muffled echo of our footsteps, the faint hum of the lights overhead, the sharp inhale of my own breathing. His breath was steady. Controlled. That somehow made it worse.
“You know what really gets me?” he said suddenly, pressing the call button with more force than necessary. “Not that you went to him. It’s that you didn’t think. At all.”
The elevator dinged softly, doors sliding open. He pulled me inside without hesitation, his grip never loosening. The doors closed with a dull thud, sealing us into the small metal space.
I swallowed hard.
The silence inside the elevator was thick, suffocating. I could feel the heat of him beside me, the tension rolling off him in waves. My wrist throbbed faintly under his hold, not from pain-but from how tight he was gripping, like he was afraid I might disappear if he let go.
“I just wanted answers,” I said quietly, my voice barely holding together.
He let out a short, humorless laugh.
“Answers?” His eyes flicked down to me, sharp and burning. “You don’t go walking into a wolf’s den alone for answers, Rory.”
The elevator started moving upward.
“I wasn’t going to stay long,” I whispered.
“That’s not the point,” he snapped. “You shouldn’t have gone at all.”
The numbers above the door ticked upward slowly, each second stretching unbearably long. My chest felt tight, my thoughts tangled, emotions colliding inside me-fear, anger, guilt, frustration.

“And what?” I asked, finally looking at him. “You think I don’t know that w7
He exhaled sharply through his muse, jaw lightening. “You don’t get it,” aid, quister now, more dangerous. “The second the beast woke up it was screaming, fut worried. Not uneney, Screaming. That doesn’t happe for no reason?
The elevator slowed, then stopped with a soft chime.
The doors slid open.
He didn’t wait.
He pulled me out immediately, down another quiet hallway, this one ever darker, the carpet muffling our steps. My heart pounded so hard 1 could feel it in my throat.
We stopped in front of his door.
He unlocked it quickly, opened it, and tugged me inside. The door shut blind us with a solid click that echoed far too loudly in the silence,
Only then did he let go.
i staggered a half-step forward, catching myself, my breath shaky as I turned to face him. He stood there, back against the door, arms crossed now, oyes locked on me like he was daring me to try and leave again.
“You’re not going anywhere tonight,” he said flatly. “Not after that,”
I swallowed, my chest rising and falling too fast. “You can’t just ”
