Chapter 377

And without the truth forcing itself through my skull.

My father had done this easily.

Effortlessly.

Without hesitation.

He had stolen her like she meant nothing.

Sold her like she was merchandise.

Placed her into the hands of someone even worse.

The car hit the crossroads-barely visible under snow.

“Left!” I barked, the moment I saw the bent sign half-crushed under a fallen branch.

The Beta swerved, wheels kicking up a storm of white.

A few minutes later, the road widened, stretching straight into the horizon. Forest on both sides, black skeletal branches heavy with snow.

Exactly how she described.

Exactly as she remembered.

“She could be anywhere,” Kael muttered, voice tight. “This road goes forever.”

“She’s here,” I snapped. “Somewhere along this road. She said the trees blocked everything. And look.”

Rows of pines-too perfect, evenly spaced like soldiers- lined the right side of the road.

“That’s it,” he breathed.

“Keep going,” I ordered.

The Beta nodded.

Ten more minutes.

Fifteen.

My heart was beating so loudly it drowned out the engine.

Then-

Kael pointed ahead. “Zayn.”

Through the curtain of snow, a shape emerged.

Massive.

Black metal.

Frosted over.

se spiked so violently I had to brace my hand against the dashboard.

“That’s it,” I whispered. “That’s the one.”

The Beta slowed as we approached, scanning for guards.

No one.

Not a sound.

Not a car.

Not a single mark in the snow besides old tire tracks half-filled by last night’s storm.

Kael frowned. “This is too quiet.”

“Open it,” I ordered.

The Beta gave the horn two sharp honks-nothing.

Kael tried pressing the hidden intercom.

Silence.

No voice.

No movement.

I didn’t wait.

I got out.

Snow swallowed my boots, cold biting my face instantly as I marched to the gate. My hands wrapped around the metal bars and I pushed.

We slipped inside.

The driveway curved exactly how she described it-white stone rising at the end of it like some grotesque fairytale castle carved out of

frost and old money. The windows glowed faintly from the inside.

e on.

was home.

My pulse kicked hard.

Kael caught my eye. “Careful.”

“I’m not here to be careful.”

We approached the entrance. Snow swallowed the sound of our steps but my heartbeat thundered loud enough to drown it anyway. I reached the door first and tried the handle.

Unlocked.

Kael mouthed something like fuck under his breath.

I pushed the door open.

Warmth hit my face first-dry, perfumed air, the kind that clung to old carpets and expensive cleaning products. The mansion wasn’t abandoned.

It was lived in.

Too lived in.

The foyer gleamed-marble floors polished to a mirror sheen, chandeliers dripping light, coats hanging neatly by the door.

Voices drifted faintly from somewhere deeper inside the house. Muffled. Indistinct.

Kael froze beside me, listening.

“Upstairs?” he whispered.

“Maybe.”

But then-

A sound cut through the silence so sharp my whole body went still.

A crash.

Glass shattering.

Followed by-

A scream.

High.

Choked.

Terrified.

Aurora.

I didn’t think.

I fucking ran.

My boots hammered the floor, echoing through the mansion as I sprinted toward the sound, Kael right behind me, snarling orders I
