Chapter 389

Aurora

We didn’t talk after that.

Not one word.

Just the two of us trapped in the same narrow space, breathing the same tense air, pretending not to look at each other while every emotion we didn’t say hovered between us like smoke.

I turned toward the window, forcing my eyes closed, telling myself I wasn’t going to sleep.

Couldn’t sleep.

But exhaustion crept in anyway-heavy, stubborn, unforgiving.

And eventually, somewhere between the ache in my chest and the trembling in my hands, I slipped under.

Barely.

It wasn’t rest.

It wasn’t peace.

It was falling into darkness that replayed everything I wanted to forget. The auction lights. The screaming. The cold burn of the mark. Sergei’s hands. Blood on the walls. My own wolf tearing through flesh like she had been waiting her entire life to destroy something.

jolted awake.

Not because of the dream.

Because someone touched my shoulder.

Firm. Warm. Too familiar.

My eyes snapped open.

Zayn was standing in front of me, leaning over my seat, his face close enough that I could see the faint shadow under his eyes-

exhaustion, anger, worry, all tangled together.

“Get up,” he said.

His voice wasn’t soft.

Wasn’t gentle.

Wasn’t cruel either.

Just… rough. Tight. Like he had been holding himself together with sheer force until this exact second.

“We’re here.”

He didn’t wait for my response.

Didn’t give me a moment to breathe or orient myself.

He simply reached for my hand-and grabbed it.

Harshly.

His fingers wrapped around my wrist like he was terrified I’d vanish if he didn’t hold on tight enough. Not painfully… but firm. Desperate. Possessive in a way that made my chest twist.

“Let go,

,” 1 muttered, trying to pull back.

He didn’t loosen his grip.

“We don’t have time for this,” he said, still not looking directly at me, already tugging me out of the seat. “Just get up.”

His jaw was tight.

Too tight.

The muscles in his neck strained like he was fighting the urge to yell or drag or shake someone

entire world.

“Zayn-you’re hurting me,” I snapped, yanking my arm harder this time.

That got his attention.

His grip loosened instantly.

maybe me, maybe himself, maybe the

Not fully-he didn’t release me-but enough that I could feel the tremor in his fingers. Guilt. Anger. Fear. All of it, tangled and unspoken.

He finally met my eyes.

“Sorry,” he said, but the word came out raw, unfinished, like he hated how small it sounded.

I opened my mouth to reply-I didn’t even know what I wanted to say-but he was already turning toward the plane exit, still holding my hand, still dragging me with him like letting go even for a second was not an option.

The cold hit me the second we stepped off the plane.

A slap of freezing air that sliced straight through the thin dress the maid forced me into. I shivered before I could stop myself, arms instinctively wrapping around my body.

Zayn didn’t miss it.

Of course he didn’t.
