Chapter 392

Aurora

The cold rushed in the second the car door opened, biting straight through the thin fabric of my dress. I stepped out slowly, my boots

sinking slightly into the untouched snow. The clearing around the house was completely silent, the kind of silence that only existed far

away from cities and people. The forest circled the property like a wall-tall pines heavy with snow, their branches bending under the

weight.

Zayn walked ahead of me toward the front steps, his shoulders still tense, like even here he didn’t fully trust the quiet.

The house was larger up close than it had looked from the car. Built from dark gray stone that had probably stood here for decades,

maybe longer. The roof was steep and covered in snow, the windows tall and glowing softly with warm light from inside. It didn’t look

abandoned or unused. Someone clearly maintained it. The path leading to the door had been cleared recently, and the wooden steps

creaked faintly under our weight.

Zayn pulled a key from his pocket and unlocked the door without hesitation, pushing it open.

Warm air spilled out immediately.

The contrast from the freezing cold outside made my skin prickle as I stepped inside after him.

The door shut behind us with a solid thud.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

I just stood there, taking it in.

It was elegant-expensive. The kind of place that felt lived in rather than displayed. The entryway opened into a wide living area with

high ceilings supported by dark wooden beams that stretched across the room. A large stone fireplace dominated one wall, a low fire

already burning inside it, casting warm flickers of light across the room.

A thick rug covered most of the wooden floor, softening the sound of footsteps. The furniture looked comfortable rather than decorative-

deep couches, worn leather chairs, a heavy wooden table near the windows. Bookshelves lined the far wall, filled unevenly with books and

scattered objects like someone had actually used them instead of arranging them for appearance.

To the right, an open kitchen area sat beneath hanging lights, the counters spotless but clearly used. A kettle rested on the stove, and a

few dishes were stacked neatly near the sink.

The entire house smelled faintly of wood smoke and something warm-like cinnamon or old paper.

It didn’t feel like a royal property.

It felt hidden.

Chapter 392

Safe in a way that was unfamiliar after everything that had happened.

I stepped farther inside slowly, my boots leaving faint wet marks on the floor as the snow melted..

Zayn closed the door behind us and locked it automatically, his movements quick and practiced. He didn’t look at meeyyt:Itasted the crossed the room and checked the windows one by one, pulling the curtains partially closed.

Only after he finished did he turn toward me.

I had moved into the center of the room without realizing it, my eyes still wandering over the unfamiliar space.

The house was quiet.

Too quiet.

No guards.

No staff.

No sound except the fire shifting softly in the fireplace.

I wrapped my arms around myself again, not entirely sure if the shiver that ran through me was from the cold or from the exhaustion

that was finally catching up to me.

“This is Kael’s place?” I asked.

Zayn nodded once.

“Yeah.”

My eyes drifted toward the tall windows again, the forest outside barely visible now behind the snow-covered branches.

“No one knows about it?” I asked quietly.

His gaze lingered on me for a second before he answered.

“No one who would think to look for you.”

The words hung in the warm air between us.

1 turned slowly, looking deeper into the house.

A staircase curved upward along the far wall, leading to the second floor. A hallway disappeared behind the kitchen, probably leading to more rooms further inside. Everything about the place felt quiet, tucked away from everything that had happened outside these walls.
