As Vivica walked out, she didn't spare Fletcher a single glance. Just as they were about to pass by each other, he couldn’t stop himself from asking, “From the moment I asked for a divorce, you never once tried to stop me. Were you just waiting for this day to come?”
Vivica, already at the doorway, paused and turned back to him. “What are you trying to say? Are you going to accuse me of something else now?”
Fletcher stared at her. “There’s no point in accusations anymore. I just regret it.”
Vivica understood what he meant. “You know, I used to have regrets, too,” she said softly. “But not anymore.”
Loretta sneered, “You’re walking away from this divorce with tens of millions. Of course you don’t have regrets. You’re probably laughing all the way to the bank!”
Vivica let out a short, cold laugh. “You wouldn’t believe me if I said that wasn’t the reason. The truth is, I don’t have regrets because I have Chaim. Even though the IVF was agony, I don’t regret bringing him into this world for a second.”
Especially now, knowing Chaim’s biological father was a heroic firefighter who died in the line of duty. Chaim carried the weight of a great loss, but he had also gained an abundance of new love. Even without a complete family, the little boy would not be deprived of affection.
Fletcher didn't respond. His gaze drifted to Joseph, who was waiting for Vivica outside the conference room. He asked one last, desperate question. “You and Joseph… did you really only meet recently?”
Vivica smiled. “I don’t have to prove anything to you. Whether you believe me or not is your problem. But seeing as you’re in such a pathetic state, I’ll indulge you.”
She took out her phone and opened WhatsApp.
“Here are my chat logs with Quintina. The famous Mr. Baird was indeed introduced to me by Quintina, who asked her uncle to make the connection.”
Fletcher frowned, staring at the screen.
Loretta craned her neck to see, then looked back at her brother. “She’s right. Then how… how does Chaim look so much like him?”
Joseph’s gaze sharpened, and his lips thinned into a line, but he said nothing.
Roderic, walking a step behind them, cleared his throat. He couldn’t even imagine how Ms. Lynn would react when the truth finally came out.
As Joseph exchanged a few pleasantries with the station chief, Vivica stood beside him. Her phone rang again, interrupting her thoughts. She pulled it out and saw it was her mother once more. She frowned and declined the call.
...
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Evelyn had found her grandson. However, Sheridan and Melanie already knew she was trouble and prevented her from getting near Chaim. Frustrated, Evelyn tried calling her daughter again, only to be ignored.
“That wretched girl, she’s really gotten too big for her britches, not even answering my calls!” She fumed, dialing again.
