The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 146

Vivica didn’t know what to say to that. After a moment, she asked, “So when do you plan on telling them the truth?”

“What truth?”

“That Chaim is your late brother’s son.”

Joseph’s brow furrowed, and he looked away. “We’ll see.”

Vivica frowned, studying his stern profile. Maybe she was overthinking it, but she had the distinct feeling that Joseph wasn’t particularly invested in the fact that Chaim was his biological nephew. Yet, he treated the boy so well, and by extension, she was reaping the benefits as well.

Though he wasn’t looking at her, Joseph could feel her curious gaze. He changed the subject. “Does your living room have a security camera? I need you to clip the footage from the incident and send it to me.”

Vivica snapped back to the present, understanding his request. To put Zebulon and Zahar away, they needed evidence. Her injury was now officially classified as a serious assault, which elevated it from a simple domestic dispute that could be mediated to a full-blown criminal case.

She pulled out her phone, her face flushing with embarrassment. “My phone screen is shattered. I can’t see anything…”

Joseph glanced at her phone, then turned to his assistant without a second thought. “Roderic, find a phone store up ahead and buy a new one.”

“Right away, boss.”

Roderic kept his eyes on the road and soon spotted a flagship store for a well-known brand. He pulled over, and Vivica didn't bother with the polite fiction of offering to go buy it herself. She could barely walk; she would only be in the way.

Roderic went in, selected the newest model in a shade of purple he thought a woman might like, paid, and returned to the car.

“Here you go, boss,” he said, handing the phone to the back seat.

Though the phone was for Vivica, she felt like a complete bystander. She didn't even get to touch it before Joseph intercepted it.

Vivica was silent.

“The debt you owe me can’t be repaid with money,” Joseph said, his tone still light and mocking. “How about you give me your son instead?”

Vivica froze, staring at his chiseled profile, unable to tell if he was serious. Was this his way of saying he intended to have Chaim officially recognized as a Baird?

Seeing her stunned silence, he looked over at her and sneered. “It was a joke. Look at you, all scared.”

He handed her the new phone. “There, it’s all set up. You just need to log back into the security camera app.”

Vivica shot him a resentful look. How could he joke around when she was in this miserable state?
