The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 25

But instead of scolding him, Joseph asked with surprising earnestness, “Did the boy really look like me?”

Roderic raised an eyebrow, confused by his boss’s reaction.

“I asked you a question.”

Roderic snapped to attention and nodded vigorously. “He really did! But I think he looked even more like Mr. Lennon. Too bad Mr. Lennon was also single and unmarried.”

Joseph's expression shifted again, becoming more intense. “Are you saying that little boy is the son of the Ms. Lynn who was just here?”

“Her last name is Lynn?” Roderic asked before nodding in confirmation. “Yes, that’s her son. We’ve seen them in the hospital elevator a few times.”

Joseph fell into deep thought, his friend’s words echoing in his mind. Suddenly, a shattered hope began to piece itself back together.

He grabbed his phone and called Harvey again. “Are you certain there were no errors in your investigation?”

Harvey sounded exasperated. “There’s no way. Since when do you doubt my work?”

“Fine. Understood.”

Joseph hung up and looked at Roderic. “Go investigate that boy.”

Roderic’s eyes widened in shock. After a few seconds, he stammered, “Boss, what… what does this mean? Did you and Ms. Lynn… have a fling?”

Could he be suspecting the child was his?

Joseph shot him a look so cold it could freeze fire. Roderic flinched and immediately nodded. “I’m on it!”

Fannie led Vivica to meet with Ms. Reagan, who specialized in divorce cases. Upon hearing Vivica’s story, Ms. Reagan was filled with righteous indignation.

However, Vivica was in a hurry to get back to work and didn’t have time for a deep dive into the case, so they agreed to schedule another meeting soon.

...

At the hospital, Chaim woke up from his afternoon nap to the surprising sight of his dad sitting by his bedside.

Fletcher said nothing, but his mind was racing. He knew what this meant: Vivica was working to gain leverage in their custody battle. Truthfully, he didn’t care about getting the child; he just wanted to protect the assets he had worked so hard to build.

After a moment of contemplation, Fletcher smiled and asked his son, “Chaim, if Mommy and Daddy separate, would you want to live with Daddy or Mommy?”

Without a second’s hesitation, the little boy replied, “With Mommy.”

“But Mommy will be too busy to play with you. And she doesn’t have any money. She can’t pay for your medicine or buy you nice food and fun toys.”

Fletcher’s voice was gentle and patient as he tried to persuade his son.

“If you stay with Daddy, everything will be different. Daddy is a boss, has lots of money. Not only can I cure your illness, but I can also give you anything you want.”

He put extra emphasis on “anything,” his tone exaggerated.

Chaim listened, his big eyes staring blankly at his father.

Fletcher thought he was winning him over. He patted the boy’s cheek and pressed on. “If you live with me, you’ll have a sister to play with you every day, and Riley will be a very gentle mommy to you.”
