The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 250

And, just as Joseph had predicted, events unfolded exactly as he said.

Back at the hospital, Fletcher was fuming after Vivica hung up on him. When Loretta asked how the call went, he ignored her and started dialing his friends.

But the moment he mentioned needing to borrow money, each one of them made a hasty excuse. They all knew he was on the verge of bankruptcy; lending him money now would be like throwing it into a black hole.

When he had money, they were his best buddies, closer than brothers. Now that he was broke, he was lucky they weren’t kicking him while he was down. Generosity was out of the question.

As he was repeatedly shot down, a nurse came out to pressure them again. “You need to pay the deposit now. If you delay any longer, we might not be able to save him.”

Loretta paced anxiously. “Bro, what’s the big deal about signing an IOU? Is your pride more important than Dad’s life? We’ve already lost Mom. Do you want to lose Dad too?”

Her words struck a nerve. Fletcher stared blankly at his sister.

The nurse pressed again. “Are you going to proceed with the treatment or not?”

“Yes! Of course, we are!” Loretta insisted, then turned back to her brother. “Fletcher, call her! Right now, she’s the only one who might help us.”

Fletcher grit his teeth and finally redialed Vivica’s number.

Vivica saw the caller ID and looked at Joseph in amazement. “You’re a lawyer, but did you also study psychology?”

Joseph smiled elegantly. “Something like that. How can you win a case if you don’t understand human nature?”

True enough. Vivica nodded, feeling a fresh wave of admiration for him. After letting the phone ring for a few moments, she picked it up. “Hello.”

“Vivica,” Fletcher’s voice was tight, still laced with reluctance, but he was clearly forcing his temper down. “I’ll sign the IOU. Just transfer the money quickly.”

Loretta was baffled. “The director? What do you mean?”

The doctor, too busy to explain, hurried off.

When Fletcher returned from paying the deposit, Loretta relayed the strange conversation. “The doctor said they’d already started treating Dad. He asked why I didn’t say we knew the director. What does that mean?”

Fletcher was initially confused, but then their eyes met, and the realization dawned on both of them at the same time.

“Could it be Vivica? No, she doesn’t have those kinds of connections. It must have been that lawyer who’s helping her,” Loretta deduced, proving to be quite sharp.

Fletcher remained silent, his expression a tangled mess of conflict and deep, stinging humiliation.
