The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 31

“Riley, do you know how long I’ve waited for this day? I’ve dreamed of having you…”

The voice was nauseatingly familiar. It was Fletcher.

Vivica’s brow twitched as she stared at her phone in disbelief. Had Riley really sunk so low as to call and taunt her so openly?

After the initial shock, Vivica quickly hit the record button. If they were going to hand-deliver evidence of the affair, she wasn’t about to turn it down.

Riley’s seductive laugh trickled through the speaker. “So, it wasn’t that you couldn’t perform… it was just that Vivica has no appeal. She can’t turn you on, right?”

Fletcher’s voice was a low, rough growl. “Yeah. Don’t talk about her right now. It’s a total mood killer.”

“Okay, I won’t.”

They fell silent after that, but the distinct sounds of kissing, followed by the rhythmic creak of a bed, came through loud and clear.

Vivica never imagined she’d have such a bizarre, twisted experience in her life. She was listening to a live broadcast of her own husband cheating on her with his mistress. She thought she’d be furious, ready to explode. But in reality, a strange, unnerving calm settled over her.

She placed the phone back on the nightstand, letting the passionate performance on the other end play out.

It wasn’t until she heard the man’s high-pitched, excited groan that a wave of visceral disgust washed over her. Just as she reached out to hang up, the call ended abruptly. She glanced over and saw the screen had gone dark.

A cold, faint smile touched Vivica’s lips. She picked up the phone and, on a whim, sent a text to the number that had just called.

[Less than ten minutes. I guess your charms aren’t all that special, either.]

“Honestly… I feel for Vivica. She’s been with you for what, four or five years? Practically living like a nun. If I were her, I’d divorce you in a heartbeat, find a strong, healthy man while I’m still young and beautiful, and make up for lost time.”

Fletcher felt a hot flush of shame creep up his neck. He pulled the blanket around himself and sat up, his face a thundercloud.

“If you look down on me so much, why did you even come back to me?”

Riley froze, realizing she’d accidentally spoken her mind and wounded his fragile ego. She immediately pasted on a seductive smile and snuggled back into his arms.

“Because I still love you, Fletcher.” She leaned in and gave him a soft, reassuring kiss. “As for all that… physical stuff, I had years of it, and frankly, I’m over it. Once a woman reaches a certain age, who’s still chasing carnal pleasure? We care more about emotional connection, about a steady, quiet life together.”

Her words soothed Fletcher. Ever since Vivica had publicly exposed his impotence, he had been walking on eggshells around Riley, unable to hold his head high. He had been terrified that she would find him repulsive and leave him again.
