The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 315

“What?” Vivica spun around in surprise. “Are you sure… you want to get the license so soon?”

“Are you having second thoughts?” Joseph countered.

“I…” Vivica trailed off, following him into the elevator. Her mind was still reeling. “I’m not having second thoughts, it just feels so rushed. Besides, this is your first marriage. You should be more careful.”

“It may be my first marriage, but my head is on straight,” Joseph stated crisply. “I’ve thought through every decision I make.”

Vivica pressed her lips together, unsure how to respond.

“I have a busy week ahead,” she said, trying to buy some time to adjust. “I’ll let you know when I have a free moment.”

...

That evening, Joseph was exceptionally considerate, offering to sleep with Chaim. Vivica had been watching him all afternoon and sensed he was a little down. Now that he was offering to take the child, her guilt intensified.

While Laura was getting Chaim ready for bed, Vivica saw her chance and sidled up to Joseph.

He was on his phone, replying to emails, and glanced up as she approached him cautiously. “What is it?”

Vivica gave a hesitant smile. “Um… you’re not angry about today, are you?”

“Angry about what?”

“You know… that we couldn’t… and you had to suffer for nothing.”

Joseph had nearly put the matter out of his mind, but this foolish woman just had to bring up the sore subject.

Joseph leaned back against the sofa, watching with lazy amusement as she flusteredly tried to deny it. It was adorable.

“Relax, I’m not angry. I saw you were feeling drained all afternoon and thought you could use a good night’s rest. Of course, if you want both Chaim and me to keep you company, we can all sleep in the master bedroom.”

So that was it. Realization dawned on Vivica, and she felt a pang of embarrassment. She was the one who had been overthinking things.

“No, that’s not necessary. You stay with Chaim. I’ll be fine on my own,” she insisted, turning and heading upstairs.

Dealing with smart people was terrifying. Joseph had seen through a subtle emotion she hadn’t even consciously registered herself. She supposed she did miss the feeling of being in his arms, especially on a cold winter night like this. Even with the excellent heating in the villa, there was something uniquely comforting about having a living, breathing furnace in the bed with her.

Especially today, when she wasn’t feeling well, she subconsciously craved someone to warm the bed for her. But then he had offered to sleep with the child, and her subconscious disappointment had made her misinterpret his actions as him being angry. That's why she had gone and asked him those ridiculous questions…

Vivica mulled it over as she climbed the stairs, groaning inwardly. Had she really fallen for him this quickly?
