Vivica was taken aback. "It's already eight o'clock, what are we doing at the mall? Are you going holiday shopping?"

The phrase 'holiday shopping' seemed utterly incongruous with Joseph.

Joseph remained deliberately mysterious.

Roderic pouted and fell silent.

Vivica gently tugged on Joseph's sleeve, murmuring a soft refusal. "I don't need anything. Please don't buy me more things. Let's just go home."

"Fine, then you can get out and walk home," Joseph shot back, his old habit flaring up.

Vivica was speechless.

In truth, Joseph wasn't trying to be harsh. Ever since they married, he had given her a supplementary credit card with no spending limit, but she barely used it. He figured she was still hesitant to spend his money, which meant he had to take matters into his own hands. This was, after all, the first New Year she and Chaim would be spending with the Baird family. As the man of the house, he felt it was his duty to make a gesture.
