"I'll let you know in advance once I nail down the exact time."
"Sounds good. Thank you, Mr. Baird," Raymond said, his voice thick with gratitude.
He knew that without Joseph playing the middleman, Vivica likely wouldn't have come around this quickly.
But hearing that "thank you" didn't bring Joseph any joy. Because he still wasn't entirely sure if this trip would be a joyous reunion for Vivica, or just another traumatic ordeal.
Hanging up the phone, Joseph turned around to find Vivica standing right behind him. She was wearing a sleek, low-cut black sweater that perfectly highlighted her slender, graceful neck. The emerald necklace rested against her collarbones, making her flawless skin look absolutely radiant. She was practically glowing. The matching earrings dangled from her earlobes, catching the light and sparkling brilliantly with every slight movement.
Catching his gaze, Vivica blushed a little and self-consciously touched the necklace. "What do you think? Does it look too old-fashioned on me?"
After all, this style of jewelry was incredibly opulent. It felt a bit too mature and regal for a younger woman.
Before Joseph could even speak, the manager quickly chimed in, "Not at all! It suits you perfectly, Mrs. Baird. It's elegant, glamorous, and absolutely stunning."
Joseph couldn't agree more. He rarely saw Vivica dress up. In truth, her natural elegance and beauty were unmatched among the socialites of Riverdale.
Her past burdens of simply surviving and enduring a miserable marriage had kept her light hidden, like a diamond covered in dust. Now, with just a little love and care, her inner beauty radiated outward, making even the most priceless jewels look like mere accessories to her charm.
He smiled, stepping closer and nodding. "It's beautiful. It's perfect for the holidays. It brings a touch of vibrant life to the winter season."
Vivica's cheeks flushed pink. She hadn't expected such a poetic compliment from him.
"We'll take this set. We still have other stores to hit, so let's keep moving," Joseph said decisively, paying for it without a second thought since it looked so good on his wife.
She thought they were done after the jewelry, but Joseph seemed to have caught the shopping bug. He insisted on dragging his wife along to buy clothes and shoes.
Vivica didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Are you treating me like a three-year-old? Do I really need a whole new wardrobe from head to toe just for the holidays?"
Joseph nodded. "These are direct orders from my mother. She said that any pampering you missed out on growing up, our family has to make up for."
Vivica froze. It felt like something had struck her right in the chest, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears.
But it wasn't out of sadness. It was out of sheer gratitude. An overwhelming, indescribable surge of emotion!
So that was why, even after a grueling day at work, he had insisted on dragging her to the mall to spoil her.
