The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 477

"Hello?"

"Vivica..." It was Evelyn. Her voice was cautious, dripping with a desperate eagerness to please.

Vivica felt a fleeting pang of pity. With Zebulon and his son both locked up in prison, Evelyn was spending the holidays completely alone.

But that loneliness was her own doing. She didn't let her heart soften, keeping her tone completely flat. "It's early. What do you want?"

Evelyn sounded pitiful. "It's the holidays... aren't you going to come visit? I'm all alone in this big house. It's so quiet."

Vivica stood by the window, looking out at the Baird estate. The house was beautifully decorated, warm, and brimming with laughter. Her own mood was bright and clear.

When a person is truly happy and at peace, they don't have the energy to hold on to toxic people and their drama.

So, she decided to take the high road.

"I won't be coming over. I'm not your biological daughter, and you never truly loved me. Let's not exhaust ourselves pretending."

Her words were sharp but clear-headed. However, just as she was about to hang up, a small ounce of grace slipped through. "I'll transfer a thousand dollars to your account in a minute. Buy yourself something nice. But I'm not visiting."

Regardless of the past, Evelyn had raised her. And frankly, a thousand dollars was pocket change to Vivica now, but it would be a small fortune to Evelyn in her current state.

Without waiting for a response, Vivica ended the call. She quickly opened her banking app and transferred the money—a final holiday gesture, closing the book on their relationship.

As she turned back toward the living room, her phone rang again. She recognized the number instantly. Fletcher.

It reminded her that she hadn't yet informed him of the bone marrow match results from the hospital a few days ago. Since he was calling, she figured she'd just get it out of the way.

The line was quiet for a long moment.

Remembering the test results, Vivica opened her mouth just as Fletcher spoke up, "Um... about the bone marrow test I took before the holidays. Are the results back yet?"

"Oh, I was just about to tell you," Vivica said flatly. "The results came in a few days ago. I was just too busy to let you know. It's not a match. You can't be Chaim's donor. But thank you for trying."

They might be strangers now, but basic courtesy cost her nothing.

Fletcher's disappointment was palpable. "It failed..."

He had been banking on a miracle. If he was a match, he'd have an excuse to see Chaim, and Vivica would owe him the ultimate debt. Maybe, just maybe, it would have been his ticket back into her life.

"It's normal to fail," Vivica said. "The odds of finding a match are incredibly low. If it were that easy, we wouldn't lose so many people to leukemia."
