The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 486

Vivica listened in silence, but at her sides, her hands unconsciously curled into tight fists.

Cheryl pushed open the door and stepped inside. "Hillary, look who's here."

Inside the hospital room, Hillary was arguing with her nurse. She was determined to get out of bed and take a wheelchair down to the DNA testing center, but the nurse was flat-out refusing because of the IV still hooked up to Hillary's arm.

Their standoff was interrupted when the door swung open and Cheryl walked in. The nurse let out a visible sigh of relief and immediately turned to her. "Cheryl, thank goodness you're here. She refuses to listen and keeps trying to get out of bed."

Cheryl gave the nurse an appreciative smile and gestured toward the door. Taking the hint, the nurse quickly slipped out of the room.

Seeing her sister, Hillary lit up with desperate, anxious energy. She reached out. "Where is Vivica? Did you bring her? I wanted to go see you both, to see Vivica, but Rosalind wouldn't let me leave."

Cheryl hurried to her bedside, taking her sister's hands. "You're in no condition to be running around. Please, don't work yourself up. Just take a deep breath and listen to me."

"I can't be calm! It's been twenty-seven years, and I finally... I finally found my daughter. How do you expect me to calm down? I just want to see her. I need to see her right now." Hillary clutched her sister's hands with a white-knuckled grip.

"Okay, okay, I know. Vivica is here, but you can't act like this. You're going to scare her away!" Cheryl pleaded, terrified that Vivica—who was still lingering in the hallway—would just turn around and leave.

Out in the hall, Vivica stood frozen. Her hands were balled into tight fists, her jaw clenched, her eyes completely vacant. She couldn't bring herself to step through that door. She was terrified of coming face-to-face with her biological parents. She didn't even know how she was supposed to act or what expression she should wear.

Sensing her overwhelming panic, Joseph frowned and gently offered her an out. "You don't have to do this if you aren't ready. We can just go back to the hotel."

Vivica stood rooted to the spot, unable to step toward the room, yet unable to walk away.

Joseph looked back at her. Seeing her bloodshot eyes welling up with unshed tears, he didn't hesitate. He took her by the wrist and gently but firmly led her away down the corridor.

Raymond watched them, absolutely stunned! He couldn't believe they had made it all the way to the door, only for Joseph to pull her away at the very last second.

"Mr. Baird!" Raymond chased after them. Not daring to grab Vivica, he pleaded with her instead. "Vivica, you're already here. Just see her. Hillary has been a nervous wreck, barely eating or sleeping, just praying for a chance to lay eyes on you. You don't even have to officially acknowledge her as your mother yet. Just one look. That's all."

Raymond practically begged as he followed them all the way to the elevator banks.
