Vivica's acceptance made both Raymond and Hayes overjoyed. They exchanged a look, and Hayes, trying his best to suppress his excitement, instructed his nephew, "Raymond, tomorrow… bring the lawyers over tomorrow. We'll sign the agreement."
He knew that his daughter's willingness to accept this meant there was still a chance she might forgive them. How could he not be thrilled?
But he was also afraid she might change her mind, so he needed to get the agreement signed and settled as quickly as possible.
Raymond nodded. "Alright, Hayes. Don't worry, I'll take care of everything."
Watching them, Vivica felt a pang of bitterness. Their humble and deferential attitude left her at a loss for words, making her eyes sting.
She turned to Joseph, and though she said nothing, he understood immediately.
"In that case, we won't disturb you any longer. You should get some rest," Joseph said, knowing his wife wanted to leave.
Raymond turned back, wanting to ask them to stay, but considering Hayes's condition, he agreed that rest was crucial.
"Hayes, you rest. I'll see them out."
"Alright…" Hayes’s eyes, full of reluctance, were fixed on Vivica and the child. He suddenly added, "Take the gift. Don't forget, it's for the child."
Raymond glanced at the ornate box on the nightstand, which contained a gift of gold, and quickly grabbed it to catch up with Vivica and Joseph.
"Vivica, please take it. This is a token from Hayes for Chaim," Raymond said, pressing it into her hands.
Unable to refuse, Vivica held it in her arms.
At the elevator, Joseph, holding Chaim, turned to Raymond. "That's far enough, Mr. Smith. We can manage from here."
Just then, the elevator arrived, and he stepped forward, holding the door open with one hand. "I'll have my wife start preparing early tomorrow."
Joseph turned and stepped inside with Chaim in his arms. Vivica followed, giving Raymond a polite smile.
Only when the elevator doors closed and they began to descend did Vivica finally relax, letting out a soft sigh. "I don't know if this was the right decision. I'm already starting to regret it, but I've already given my word."
Vivica's smile was complicated, her eyes filled with helplessness.
Joseph looked at her, his gaze gentle. "Have you forgotten what I told you?"
"Hmm?" She didn't immediately recall.
"I said that whatever you decide, you should follow what your heart feels in the moment. Don't worry about the future. No one knows what it holds."
