Because she wanted to respect her daughter's boundaries, Hillary tried to pass the heavy burden onto her nephew.
Joseph had remained quiet the entire time.
He silently observed everyone's reactions. He could tell Raymond genuinely didn't want to deal with the mess, and as for his wife... he had no intention of letting her stress over it either.
"Actually, if we really can't find a suitable person to take over, selling the company might be the most practical solution."
Selling it would certainly eliminate the headache.
However, Chase Group was something Hayes and Hillary had built from the ground up.
It had been hijacked by Sullivan and Sean Chase for years, and now that they had finally clawed it back, selling it felt like a bitter pill to swallow.
Sentimental attachments always made logical decisions difficult.
Predictably, a heavy silence fell over the room following Joseph's pragmatic suggestion.
He knew he had to be the one to propose it; it was too cold and calculating a move for the others to vocalize.
If it made him the bad guy, so be it.
"When I was investigating Sullivan and Sean, I looked into the company's financials. Years of their mismanagement have hollowed it out. It's bleeding money. Their original plan was to sell it and flee the country to live comfortably abroad. Dumping this mess on our laps and expecting us to turn it around and make it profitable won't be easy. So, instead of fighting a losing battle, it's better to sell it and wash your hands of the situation entirely."
Vivica looked back at her husband. Her expression was calm, but the distinct gleam of agreement in her eyes was obvious.
She thought it was the best idea, too.
She had no intention of moving to Sydville City permanently. Once her biological parents eventually passed, she would only have a few distant relatives left here. Visiting occasionally for a vacation sounded lovely, but that was it.
She had absolutely zero desire to become a CEO.
She spent the afternoon at the hospital, keeping Hillary and Hayes company.
Joseph went to focus on work.
The more Hillary looked at her daughter, the more her affection grew. And seeing how deeply Joseph adored Vivica only brought her more comfort.
"Vivica, when you went back last time, did your in-laws like the holiday gifts I asked your aunt to prepare for them?"
At the mention of this, Vivica recalled the endless stream of premium health supplements the Baird estate had been sending over lately—they had practically fed Joseph so many vitamins he was practically vibrating.
"Yes, the gifts you picked out were top-tier. They loved them and told me to be sure to thank you properly," Vivica replied honestly.
"There's no need for thanks. They treat you so well; we're the ones who should be thanking them."
Hillary smiled, her good mood visibly improving her overall vitality.
