"It's not uncomfortable. As long as you like it, you can sleep however you want."
She smiled, pressing her lips together. "Are you sure me crushing you like this isn't heavy?"
"With how light you are? Please."
In fact, he actually loved the feeling of having her "clinging" to him.
So, Vivica made it her permanent sleeping position.
As she draped her leg over him again, Joseph naturally rested his hand on her thigh.
With her eyes closed, Vivica mumbled, "In a few months, when my belly gets big, I won't be able to hug you like this anymore."
Once her stomach swelled like a balloon, there would literally be a physical barrier between them.
Joseph said easily, "Then I'll just hold you from behind."
Either way, they weren't sleeping apart.
Vivica didn't answer, just smiled to herself, and quickly drifted off to sleep.

Early the next morning, as Joseph was leading Vivica out the door, he made a quick call to Harvey Murphy.
"Aren't you two rushing this a bit? Have you been following my instructions? Timing, positions—figuring out the optimal ovulation window is crucial, you know?"
Harvey sounded both exasperated and anxious on their behalf.
When normal couples struggled to conceive, they could afford to wait a year or two.
But these two were racing against time to save their oldest child; they literally couldn't afford to waste a single second.
"It's not about that. Just clear your schedule. We'll explain when we get there."
Joseph deliberately kept him in the dark, choosing not to mention the pregnancy over the phone so he could see his best friend's shocked reaction in person.
Hanging up, Joseph shot a smug smile toward the passenger seat.
Vivica gave him a look, realizing that the usually stoic Mr. Baird could actually be incredibly childish sometimes.
"Are you trying to give Dr. Murphy a surprise?"
Quintina Christie happened to work at this exact hospital in the obstetrics department. That meant once Vivica transferred her care, she could just see her best friend for every prenatal checkup.
Unfortunately, Quintina was probably busy; she didn't reply to the message.
Putting her phone away, Vivica looked up—and instantly locked eyes with a familiar face.
Though it was a familiar face, it had been a while since they had last seen each other, making Vivica second-guess her own eyes for a split second.
But upon closer inspection, it was definitely Evelyn.
And she wasn't alone. The man she was supporting was—Zebulon Lynn!
Vivica froze, rooted to the spot.
Before Joseph could even ask what was wrong, his eyes tracked to the two figures emerging from the clinic doors, and his handsome face instantly darkened.
He immediately regretted his choices.
Clearly, the universe was against him today. This was exactly why they should just go to an exclusive private hospital for all future checkups—to avoid running into people like this entirely.
"Vivica... it really is Vivica!" The moment Evelyn spotted her, she looked incredulous, but once she confirmed it was indeed her adopted daughter, she immediately let go of her husband and rushed forward.
