Bertha's teeth were practically grinding into dust from pure hatred, but she forced a fawning smile as she begged.
Hillary ignored her entirely. Instead, she looked at her nephew, who was still standing, and asked lightly, "Victor, why aren't you on your knees for your uncle?"
Victor Chase, Sullivan's son, was the same man who had tried to take a swing at Joseph earlier.
His face was full of disdain. Dripping with arrogance, he actually turned his head away.
Bertha looked back, grabbed her son's arm, and yanked him hard. "Get on your knees right now! Look at the situation we're in! Will your pride put food on the table? I told you to go out and get a job, and you refused!"
After a lot of pulling and shoving, Bertha finally forced her son to his knees.
Hillary looked at them, her expression as serene as a calm lake.
"I didn't ask you to kneel for me, nor do I care for your submission. You're kneeling for Hayes. His entire life was destroyed by you people. He was bedridden for over a decade, and now he's finally free. Yet, right up until the moment he passed, he never received a single apology or ounce of remorse from you. Making you kneel and admit your sins is getting off easy."
Bertha lowered her eyes, scrambling for an excuse. "Well... you didn't notify us that Hayes was critically ill. Otherwise, we definitely would have come to visit."
Hillary laughed coldly, piercing right through the lie. "You would have come to laugh at us."
"..." The group fell into a collective, suffocating silence.
Knowing her sister was too heartbroken to waste more breath on them, Cheryl spoke on her behalf. "Since you're here to apologize and make amends, then bow your heads to the floor three times for Hayes."
"Bow... bow our heads to the floor?" Several of the people kneeling looked up, finding the demand hard to swallow.
