The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 68

His rewards were generous, but so were his demands. His team was composed of elite professionals, and the workload was intense. When a case wasn’t handled to his satisfaction, his reprimands could leave them trembling in a cold sweat. So whether he was a good boss or not was for them to decide, not him.

“In that case, please transfer it to me,” Vivica said with a small smile.

“Let’s exchange contact info. Send me your bank details.”

“Okay,” Vivica replied, quickly adding him on WhatsApp. The light turned green, and Joseph started driving again.

After adding him, Vivica noticed his profile picture was his law firm's logo, which seemed to perfectly match his cold, imposing demeanor.

“I’ve sent you my account number,” she said, then added hesitantly, “Could you transfer the money as soon as possible? I might have to give it to my family, otherwise they…”

Vivica hadn't actually decided whether to give them the money, but she and Joseph were still practically strangers. A million dollars was an enormous sum to her, and she couldn't afford to be careless. She needed to see the money in her account.

“Of course. I’ll do it now.” Joseph, perhaps sensing her anxiety, pulled the car over to the side of the road.

“Oh, you don’t have to rush. You can wait until—” Before she could finish, he had already parked and was processing the transfer on his phone.

Vivica felt a pang of embarrassment, feeling as though she had misjudged him.

Two minutes later, Joseph said, “It’s sent. It should be an instant transfer.”

Just as he spoke, Vivica’s phone pinged. A notification from her bank confirmed the one-million-dollar deposit.

“It’s here. Thank you.”

“Mr. Baird, uh… I can get out here. You don’t need to drive me any further. I’ll take Chaim to visit your parents tonight when I get to the hospital.”

Vivica had no desire to see her parents at the hospital and give them another chance to hurt her. She decided to ignore them for now and go straight to work. Besides, with Joseph’s men on guard, her parents wouldn’t be able to get to Chaim anyway.

Joseph had intended to drive her to her office, but she was already opening the door before he could say anything. He didn’t insist. They were, after all, not very familiar with each other. Being overly friendly could easily be misinterpreted.

“Alright. Contact me if you need anything. I’ll do my best to secure a favorable outcome for you in the divorce case,” he said with a nod.

Vivica gave him a polite smile. “Okay. Thank you, Mr. Baird.”

Joseph walked to the hospital room, intending only to peek in on the boy. But just as he got there, the door opened, and he came face-to-face with the nanny, Ruby.

Startled by his imposing presence, she asked politely but defensively, “Can I help you?”

“I’m here to see the child,” Joseph replied.

Before Ruby could respond, a small voice from inside the room called out, “Mr. Meanie, what are you doing here?”

Hearing that Chaim knew him, Ruby’s demeanor softened. “Are you a friend of Ms. Lynn’s?”

“Ruby, you can let Mr. Meanie in. He’s not a bad guy,” Chaim called out again.

Ruby stepped aside to let him pass.

Joseph entered the room and saw the little boy sitting on the bed, surrounded by a mountain of building blocks.

“Hey, kid. Could you stop calling me ‘Mr. Meanie’? I have a reputation to maintain.”
