Chapter 164
ISIDORA
55 vaucher
Her eyes met mine with silent pleading. Her Estingia power was doing everything it could to break free, but the truth was. out of the three of us, Mika was the weakest.
“Mikaela!”
When Karla saw her inside that horrible darkness, she tried to jump in and rescue her, but I grabbed her hand to stop her/
“No! She’s going to die, Isidora. We can’t leave her!”
“Who said we were going to abandon her? Give me that and don’t throw yourself in there to die!”
I shouted, taking what was left of the dream powder from her and throwing it into the open trunk.
At last, all that effort paid off. I saw the branches calm down, and the roots stopped harassing us.
“Use that power you have, the wolf-claw one. Do it!”
I roared without thinking anymore and threw myself inside that rotten trunk just as huge shadow claws rose from the ground and grabbed the edges of the bark, holding them open like a door.
It was one of Karla’s Estingia powers, one she had developed after blooming, and now it could save our lives.
I wrinkled my nose with a disgust so strong it almost made me vomit, and my boots sank into something wet and slippery.
“Hold on, Mika.”
Sword in hand, I started cutting the things trapping her. They looked like roots, or vines. Everything in there was unnatural.
Something kept dripping onto my uniform, and every time it touched my skin, it burned like acid.
My fingers burned as I held my sword with one hand and used the other to pull away the vines choking Mika.
The strange tree had slipped into something like sleep because of the powder, but I knew it wouldn’t last long.
“Quick, quick, the opening is closing!” Karla shouted from outside, as if giving voice to my own fear.
I glanced over my shoulder for one second and saw the huge Estingia shadow claws dug into the edges, trembling as the bark fought against them.
The light outside was dying, and we were going to be trapped inside. Something crawled around us like insects, and that crimson dripping grew thicker, the smell more suffocating, and the voices… the voices were the worst part.
“Come on, come on… let her go already!”
I finally cut the last vines with rage while Mika screamed, freeing herself too with the help of her power.
“Dora, it’s going to close!” she shouted, pushing me so I wouldn’t get trapped in that place of death.
But it was too late.
That creature had awakened again, and now it was more furious than ever.
Outside, Karla let out a wounded roar, and the smell of her blood drifted in just as the crack of light closed on us.
Chapter 164
The space between Mikaela and me grew tight, almost impossible to breathe in.
“Aahah! Let me go, damn you, let me go!” she started screaming, and then I felt why.

Something climbed up my legs, squeezing so hard it cut off my circulation, and I could feel it draining my strength.
I tried to use my sword, but my hands were trapped within seconds too, and a thick vine wrapped around my throat.
“I’m sorry, Dora… I’m sor…”
I saw Mika’s tears in the darkness, and those were her last words before her mouth was gagged again.
We were about to die.
I was being strangled without mercy, my whole body shaking, my lungs screaming for oxygen.
My entire life flashed before my eyes. All my misery. The fact that I had barely begun to enjoy my power.
The promises I had made to him echoed through my mind.
I couldn’t die here.
I couldn’t.
Another crack opened in the mist separating me from my powerful Estingia wolf, and even though I still couldn’t fully connect with her, once again, she saved my life by lending me her power.
“I’m not going to die here. You’re not going to finish me off!”
I roared, tearing my own throat raw as my eyes turned red like rubies, wolfish and wild, and a wave of scarlet power exploded from my body, ripping everything around me to pieces.
The instant I felt free, I wrapped my arms around Mikaela to protect her, and chaos ruled around us for a few seconds.
The screams and roars of pain turned into panic, and then only silence remained.
I could’ve sworn the souls of the poor victims trapped inside that wooden prison had been freed by the explosion of my
magic.
Mikaela and I fell to the ground coughing, our skin burning, our hands and faces still covered in that disgusting substance that looked like thick blood.
I tore away the rest of the dead roots with my claws and got to my feet without wasting time, my sword aimed in every direction, my canines bared.
But my eyes widened when I saw what had happened around us.
I hadn’t only destroyed the tree that had imprisoned us. I had cleared an entire circle around it, leaving dead wreckage everywhere, with my Estingia power still floating in the air.
“Attack us again if you want, and I won’t show mercy, you damned monsters!” I roared, feeling the fear in the air as the roots hid beneath the earth, trembling.
But we still weren’t safe.
