Chapter 170
ISIDORA
I wanted to keep staring, but chaos took over again when more novices came running in.
The doors were already starting to close, and blessed Goddess, they had only been open for a few minutes.
Many would be left outside, if they had survived at all.
Only seven of us had made it.
No wonder so few Estingias reached the top if this was only the first step toward no longer being novices.
My gaze drifted toward someone far too poisonous to ignore.
Arlene stood a few yards away from us, giving us a vicious look while Mikaela cursed her under her breath.

“Who knows what deal Morgan made with her. In the end, Arlene used her as a shield. Her illusion power is dangerous. Dora,” she told me quietly, and she was right.
In the future, I would have to be much more careful with Arlene, because she had also grown very strong in a short time.
When the dull thud of the doors announced they had fully closed, lifting a layer of dust, the Obsidian Master’s voice rang out from above.
She stood at the edge of the platform, looking down-at us.
“It is a pleasure to see how powerful our race of Dark Estingias has become. Since we have achieved seven promotions at once. I will definitely burn incense for the Goddess today….”
Laughter rose around us from the heights.
“This is considered a lot?” Mika muttered with her usual irony, and the truth was, it was depressing.
And that was without counting the fact that out of the seven… all seven of us were wounded.
“In addition to the honors that come with the New Moon promotion, and according to the order of arrival, it is time for you to choose your mentor, the person you will call master and follow on missions and in orders.”
That made me lift my head with interest.
I felt her gaze move over us, and I could have sworn it lingered on me a few seconds too long.
She introduced several women who stood in one of the main sections of the stands.
They looked experienced. They were definitely Estingias, not simple warriors, and they seemed much stronger than the instructors we had dealt with until now.
I understood then that we would become something like their assistants.
“But there is a special prize for the first team, or Estingia, to arrive. For her bravery and cunning….” Her uncovered eye moved toward the traitor Arlene.
I clenched my fists in rage.
In the end, she had managed it.

“She may choose whomever she wants as her master… including an Obsidian Estingia.”
Murmurs rose among the other girls, even among the warriors in the stands.

“That fucking bitch is definitely going to choose the Obsidian Master,” Mika said through her teeth as Arlene walked to the front of the platform, straightening her back and pretending she wasn’t beaten to hell too.
“I could be wrong… but I think that Legendary Estingia is up there today,” Karla suddenly said while the voices around us kept rising.
Honestly, my vision was already going blurry, and the blood loss and lack of energy were catching up with me.
“Who are you talking about, Karla?” Mika asked exactly what I wanted to know, but at that moment, Arlene gave her verdict.
And it wasn’t the one I expected.
“It would be a pleasure and an honor to be the disciple of the Obsidian Estingia Legna.”
The commotion was immediate, and I could have sworn the Obsidian Master’s expression turned severe.
I had thought Arlene would choose her, and it seemed the Master had thought the same, but in the end, she only stepped aside, clearing the view of the middle seat.
“What is Estingia Legna’s answer to this request?” she asked, and even the wind in the forest seemed to hold still, waiting for the answer.
