Helen was making her grand entrance, full of herself and so pleased with how clever she’d been, but I couldn’t take my eyes off that man.
I knew Legna was bleeding out in my arms.
I knew the dagger that had pierced her heart was in Blaze’s hand, and that he’d attacked her without warning….
It was all so obvious… but my heart still refused to believe it.
I kept shaking my head as I stared at his unreadable face.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you!”
A blow exploded across my cheek and knocked me to the ground.
I clung to Legna. She looked unconscious.
Her blood soaked my clothes, and some kind of Estingia attack was poisoning her body.
“You… fucking bitch!” I roared at Helen, not caring if I died.
That cold, satisfied smile finally appeared on her lips.
“See? Was it really that hard to stop acting like a whore for a few minutes and pay attention to me?”
“You’re completely insane…. Is she threatening you with Elessia’s life? Answer me, Blaze!”
My breath came out hard through my clenched teeth.
My wolf howled as fury burned through me.
“Threatening him?” The false matriarch stepped beside Blaze and gave him a mocking look. “Tell her. Am I threatening you?”
I stared at the lips that had kissed me, touched every inch of my body, and touched my soul.
It felt like my heart was breaking into a thousand pieces. I wanted to look away. I wanted to stop hearing any of this.
But I couldn’t run from it.
“No one forced me. I work for her….”
“No, no….” I shook my head, choking on the tears rising in my throat.

“See? You made the worst mistake of all. So talented and all that, but still an idiot…. You forgot the most important rule: Never fall in love with your slave.”
“You two….”
The insults died in my throat as everything clicked into place, and a crazed laugh escaped me.
I looked down, tears caught in my lashes.
Legna was wrapped in some kind of black mist that burned my hands.
Her heart was slowing down, and I couldn’t just stand there.
I lowered her onto the grass. Just for a moment.
Then I got to my feet, my fangs pushing through my gums as my Estingia aura burst out of me with no control.
“So I guess this is the end… Blaze….”
My eyes turned wolfish, and the only thing left in my mind was the need to kill.
“Kill her and prove your loyalty to me,” the false matriarch ordered.
I watched my mate come toward me with that poisoned dagger in his hand.
“Are you really going to do it? Do you know what happens when you break a bond like this?” My voice came out half animal now.
“Do you really have the balls to betray me like this?!”
I lunged at him, claws out, my body halfway through the shift.
My sword lay off to one side, but I didn’t even think about grabbing it. Varka’s rage blinded me to everything else.
Estingia energy surged through me, making me faster and stronger. I drove all of it into my fist.
When my fist hit Blaze’s, a blast of power shook the ruins.
I went at him again, but my blind rage kept throwing off my aim.
During one exchange, he got behind me and locked an arm around my neck, squeezing until I gasped.
Varka roared inside me, but something was stopping me from shifting or using my Estingia power.
I fought like crazy, but the harder I struggled, the more those silver lines wrapped around my body and dug painfully into my flesh.
“It’s a shame you chose the wrong side….”
Claws suddenly dug into my chin as I remained on my knees, bound hand and foot.

“Trust is a Estingia’s greatest weakness. Too bad you learned that when there’s no way out….”
Blood ran from where her claws sank into my flesh.
Hatred twisted my face, but no matter what I did, I couldn’t escape her trap.
“You’re not going to get what you want….”

“Darling, I already got what I wanted…. Legna, that crazy old woman, and you will all die here. And I already have a wonderfully tragic story ready to explain what happened.”
Tears of rage rolled down my cheeks.
I kept fighting, but everything inside me was blocked.
I’d trusted him again.
I’d made the same mistakes all over again, and I was going to pay dearly for them.
“Come here, slave….” Helen’s order made me tremble.
Then I heard the steady footsteps coming closer, and my heart sank.
