ISIDORA
I screamed when I felt her tearing into my womb as all that dark energy seeped into my veins.
I couldn’t reach my wolf anymore. Only emptiness spread through my body.
“That’s nothing compared to the pain I felt. The way I crawled and begged… the way I pleaded for my son’s life while that damned Estingia just watched me, laughing…”
Her cold whisper slipped into my mind, forcing all those feelings into me until I broke down crying.
Through my tears, I could see my lycan standing there, under her spell and completely controlled by her.
Just staring at me as if I were a stranger. As if my suffering meant nothing to him.
“Come finish her off once and for all! I’ll give you your freedom, Odran!”
She held me tighter, and no matter how much I begged my mate, his eyes no longer held any love or warmth.
Maybe Blaze wasn’t even in there anymore. Maybe only the savage part of him remained.
I couldn’t even feel Varka anymore in that vortex of madness.
He came closer one step at a time, his claws gleaming beneath the faint rays of moonlight.
I pictured how so many of those women had died.
I pictured Valezka’s final moments.
But with death only seconds away, a cold sense of peace came over me.
The smile on my blood–covered face turned wistful.
“Do you remember how you and I started?” I began, and I felt his steps slow down.

My sobs became harder and harder to bear, and I tugged one last time at the sacred bond the Goddess had
woven between us.
All I found was pain and emptiness.
“Liora, if this will finally let your soul rest, then… kill the last lycan and his infamous Estingia mate…”
I closed my eyes as the wind rose around us and my male’s roar shook the world.
I said goodbye, and there truly was no hatred or resentment in my heart.
Only resignation.
I was ashamed that one of us had done something so cruel to her own blood.
But the pain I was waiting for never came.
A shriek rang in my ear, making my eyes snap open to see what had happened.
Blaze had attacked the arm of roots holding me prisoner.
In a single movement, he grabbed me and threw me away from the cursed tree.
I hit the ground with a hard thud and screamed again. By then, the pain had left my entire body numb.
Still, I forced myself to get up and watched in horror as the roots attacked him, dragging him into the trunk as it split open like a hideous mouth.
It was like those trees in that forest, only worse.
Much worse.
A strong, full–grown lycan was being dragged inside, into all that death.
“NO! NO!”
“GET OUT OF HERE, ISIDORA! I’M BEGGING YOU! RUN! RUN!”
It was Vhaelor’s voice speaking inside my mind.
He’d managed to regain his sanity one last time, and he looked at me through the eyes of his lycan as he sank into the shadows.
“I can’t, Blaze… I can’t…”
I shook my head as I forced myself to my feet and ran toward the opening that was quickly closing around
him.
