It was Galen's mother calling.

From the other end, her soft voice asked, "Franco, are you busy?"

"Not at all. What is it?"

A second later, her voice choked with emotion. "We haven't heard from Gale in days, and his phone is off. Do you have any idea where he went, or has he reached out to you recently?"

Franco tipped his chin toward Jackson, who then guided Manley away to wash his hands for dinner.

Franco walked out to the porch and replied, "He hasn't contacted me. Is he still in the country, or did he go abroad?"

"We checked his flight records, and there's nothing. He should still be in the country."

Her voice shifted from choked up to a full-on sob. She had always been a loving mother, but when she and her husband finally discovered Galen had been forcing himself on his adopted sister for years, they were overwhelmed with shame and fury.

As a mother, it was her fault for failing to raise him right, but she had never intended to push her own son over the edge.

"I'm so worried... What if he does something stupid?"

"He won't," Franco said firmly.

At least, not until he found Livia.

"I'll send some people to look for him. Try not to stress too much."

After hanging up, Franco didn't order Jay to send a search party. His reassurance had just been to comfort Mrs. Carter.

Because he knew exactly where Galen was.
