Kai looks at me quietly for a moment “I can decide to do whatever the fuck I want with you, little flower. I don’t have to explain shit. Just accept it.”

I shake my head and let out a sad laugh, You’re so full of yourself. Just because you’re royalty and everyone else is beneath you, you think your word is the only truth. The only way you can feel powerful is by making everyone else feel miserable. You’re a bully, Kai.”

Kai chuckles, though there is no humor in it. “Do you really think whatever you say makes a difference to me?”

I bite my lower lip in annoyance, looking away as I try to fight the heat of the anger and frustration consuming me. He is the most infuriating person I have

ever met. I want to scream at him, but I know it won’t change anything.

Suddenly, Kai stretches his hand out. Before I can even react away, his fingers catch my lower lip, pulling it out from between my teeth. He doesn’t pull his hand back immediately. Instead, his thumb slowly rubs the corner of my mouth with a softness that makes my breath freeze.

I gasp, feeling my skin turn hot everywhere he touches. I can’t look away from him. The fire in his green eyes is different now, less like a storm and more

like a fire.

After a few moments of us staring at each other like we’re stuck in our eyes, I manage to find my voice. I clear my throat and quickly swat his hand away as

if his touch burned me.

“What… what are you doing?” I ask. I hate how breathless and weak I sound.

Kai smirks at me with a mischievous, dark glint in his eyes. “The next time I catch you biting on that lip,” he says, leaning in closer, ‘I’m going to kiss the shit out of it until it’s swollen and numb. Consider that a warning.”

A jolt of electricity shoots straight to my stomach, and a wave of goosebumps breaks out across my skin. My heart is beating so fast I’m sure he can hear it. I look down at the duvet, feeling a sudden, overwhelming shyness.

“So you still have to control what I do with my own lips?” I whisper,

“Yes,” Kai says firmly. “Which means the rest of your body is mine as well.

I look up at him, caught in his gaze. He’s staring at me with that possessive, heavy look again. The look that says he owns me in ways I don’t even

understand yet.

A traitorous thought suddenly crosses my mind.

What would it be like to actually have sex with him? I’m almost sure he would dominate every part of me, leaving nothing untouched. He would own me

until there’s nothing left of me anymore

Yes Kai says. He stares at me for a long moment, his eyes narrowing as if he’s trying to read my soul.

“You were calling out a name over and over again. “He pauses, leaning down so our faces are close.

“Who is Astra, Lyra?”

My heart stops for a full second as I stare at him in total silence.

How could he have heard me mention that baby’s name? And how much more did he hear when I was in the middle of the nightmare?
