The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Kai

My eyes are fixed on the large virtual reality screen. I haven’t looked away since the moment Lyra entered the glass door and started her test. I watch her silently with bated breath.

Normally, no one is allowed to be in the tech room. It is a restricted area, reserved only for the technician wolves who oversee the programming of the worlds created for the assessment. But since I’m the Lycan Prince, I have perks that others don’t. I told Logan, the head tech wolf, to let me stay in this particular stall. I wanted a front-row seat to watch Lyra perform.

I didn’t want to do it at first. I told myself I didn’t care. But when I saw her walk into that chamber with her friends, especially after the look we exchanged on the field, I knew I had to supervise her. Something heavy passed between us in that look, something I couldn t ignore.

It’s not like I’m worried about her. Not at all. Vlad is the one who did a good job convincing me to come here. Besides, I need to know the truth. I need to know if she is actually wolfless. This specific test is supposed to force a shift. If she doesn’t, she fails. It’s that simple.

I’m in the tech room with Damon, Logan, and two other guards.

“I’m actually surprised, Your Highness,” Logan says with a teasing smile. “I’ve never seen you interested in observing student tests before.

Usually, you find this boring.”

I turn and glare at him. “Quit being surprised and keep quiet, Logan. Do your job.”

He just keeps smiling. “My bad. Enjoy supervising Lyra Diamond.”

Logan winks at me and steps away from my stall. My screen is the only one showing Lyra’s progress. He moves down the line to check on the other students, leaving me alone. I look back at the screen. I watch as Lyra starts to pull her pants up and adjust her clothes, getting ready for whatever is coming. I find myself smiling at her bravery. She’s terrified, but she’s standing her ground.

Just then, the door to the tech room bursts open. I turn, expecting a guard, but I freeze.

King Geo is standing at the door. He is smiling at me, but the look in his eyes is cold and calculating. My heart sinks into my stomach.

I quickly open a mindlink with Damon. ‘What the fuck is my father doing here?’

‘Fuck, I don’t know, Kai. I’m just as shocked as you are. There was no warning. He wasn’t supposed to visit the Academy until next week.”

‘We have to hide Lyra’s screen!’ I snap back at him. ‘We can’t let him watch her. If he sees anything unusual, she’s in trouble.”

But my father is too fast. He walks across the room before I can move to block the monitor. He reaches me and pulls me into a fake hug. It’s for show, nothing more. I don’t hug him back.

Chapter 119

“Father,” I say in a tight voice. “What are you doing here?”

He chuckles, patting my shoulder before letting go. “Well, I just wanted to check on my son. I heard the second assessments were starting today and thought I’d see how the new students are faring.”

His eyes immediately drift to the screen behind me. He sees Lyra. His eyebrows raise, and a slow, dark smile spreads on his face.

“Well, well,” he says, his voice smooth. “Since it appears I’ve caught you stalking your slave, I think I’ll join you. It’s been a while since I’ve seen her in action. I enjoyed watching her arena game performance”

“There are hundreds of other students to watch, Father,” I say. My jaw is clenched so tight it hurts. “Surely the high-ranking future

Alphas are more interesting than a slave.”

“On the contrary,” my father says, sitting down in the chair Logan had occupied earlier. “I’m much more interested in your special slave.

She seems to have a way of keeping your attention, Kai. I want to see why.”

I have no choice. I can’t force the King to leave. I stand there, my hands balled into fists, watching the screen with him. Now, I can only hope Lyra is truly wolfless like she claims. If she shows even a hint that she’s not wolfless while he’s watching, everything is over.

LYRA’S POV

I look up at the mountain. I have no choice. I have to climb this thing as a human, even if it kills me. I look around the rocky base. It doesn’t look like anyone is watching. There are no cameras that I can see, and Alpha Poppy said the world is virtual. Whatever happens

here stays here.
