The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 121

Chapter 121

Come on, my fiery little flower. My stubborn angel. You can do this. Just keep moving.

My phone dings in my pocket. I pull it out and see a text from Kara.

How is Lyra’s test going? Is she fine? Please tell me she’s okay.

I quickly type back a reply, saying Lyra’s fine. I put the phone down, but my heart is still racing. I can’t take my eyes off the screen.

Just then, a hiss echoes through the screen. I look up and freeze. On the screen, a massive black snake slides out of a gap. It moves with unnatural speed, and strikes at Lyra. She tries to evade it, but the ledge is too narrow. She has no room to move. The only way she can escape the snake is by jumping away from the wall.

And jumping means a thousand-foot drop.

“No!” I yell.

I stand up, my chair screeching against the floor. I don’t care that my father is sitting right there. I don’t care about protocol. My heart

stops as I watch Lyra lose her balance. Her fingers slip. She falls backward into the empty air.

The camera angle doesn’t follow her down. All I can see is the empty spot and the black snake perched where she just was.

“Logan! Get her out! End the simulation!” I roar.

I’m about to bolt for the door, but my father stands up and blocks my path. He grabs my shoulder, pulling my face close to his. He is

smiling wickedly.

“Look son, always knew she was meant to fail,” he whispers. “She was destined to die like an animal anyway. Why are you so worked up

over a slave?”

I want to kill this bastard. I want to shift right here and tear his throat out.

“I hope you’ll finally let this stupid obsession die with her,” he continues, patting my chest. “Focus on Katarina. Focus on your future. I’ll

see you later.”

He turns to leave, but pauses at the door. He looks back at the blank screen where Lyra disappeared.

“May the dead rest in peace,” he says.

The moment the door clicks shut behind him, I roar in anger. I kick the chair across the room, sending it crashing into the wall.

“Calm down, Kai” Damon stops in front of me.

Chapter 121

“Damon, move!” I yell. “I have to go check on her. I have to see if she’s alive.”

I try to push past him, but Damon grabs my arms. He’s strong, and he uses his full weight to hold me back.

“Wait, Kai! You have to wait until the King leaves the premises!” Damon shouts. “If he sees you running to her now, he’ll know and try to finish what the test started.”

“Get off me!” I snarl, struggling against him. “She fell, Damon! She’s dead if I don’t get to the proving grounds!”

“Your Highness! Stop! Look!”

Logan’s voice is frantic. I turn to tell him to shut the fuck up, but he is pointing at the screen. He reaches out and pulls my shoulders, forcing me to turn around.

I freeze.

On the screen, something different is happening. A bright, blinding light erupts from the base of the mountain where Lyra should have crashed. Then, a figure appears.

It isn’t a wolf.

An unbelievably beautiful, pure white creature stands on the rocks. It is a fox. A silver-white fox. The kind of creature that belongs in old storybooks and myths. Its fur is so white that it looks like it’s glowing, even through the digital screen. Its tail is long and thick, trailing behind like a rope of silk.

I look at its eyes. They are blue. The exact same piercing blue as Lyra’s. Right now, they are shining with a bright light.

“No fucking way,” I whisper.

The fox doesn’t hesitate. It leaps up the rocks with terrifying grace. When the black snake tries to strike again, the fox snaps its jaws. It

bites the snake clean in two and tosses the pieces aside.

Then, the fox throws its head back and howls. It isn’t the deep rumble of a wolf. It is a high, beautiful, haunting sound that makes the

cameras in the simulation shake.

In the tech room, everyone is frozen. We watch as the fox starts to run. It moves with extreme speed, a white blur against the grey stone. The snakes aren’t attacking anymore. They are running away, terrified of the creature passing them.

I can’t move. I can’t even react.
