Chapter 218

The next two hours pass in a blur. The moment the clock strikes the hour, the bell rings throughout the corridor, signaling the end of the first period. Students immediately begin gathering their tablets and packing away their belongings, rushing out the doors to get to their
next destinations.
For the second period, I check my screen and realize I have Wolf History. It’s a core class, and the professor is notorious for grading
harshly.
That is when a realization hits me square in the gut. I stiffen in my seat, my eyes widening.
Dammit. I left my essential textbooks and study materials kept inside my old bedroom. The bedroom that is inside Kai’s Royal luxury
apartment block on campus.
When Kai stopped me from staying at the royal luxury apartment block and I moved out of his space and transferred to the general
student dorms, I was supposed to pack up every single one of my belongings. But the process had been rushed, and I hadn’t been given
the proper chance to thoroughly clear out the closets. I had left a box of materials behind, thinking I wouldn’t need them until later in
the year.
If I show up to the lecture hall without my required texts, the professor will penalize my score immediately. I cannot afford to lose easy
marks, especially not now when my entire future at this academy is on the line.
I need to get those books.
Taking a deep breath to steady my shaking hands, I pull out my phone and quickly scroll through my contacts until I find the name I
need. I press dial and place the phone against my ear, listening to the steady ringing.
On the fourth ring, the line clicks open.
“Lyra!” Damon’s voice booms through the speaker, sounding cheerful and bright. “Hey, little fox! How is your first resumption day going? Are the classes treating you well so far?”
Hearing his familiar, friendly voice instantly eases a fraction of the tension in my shoulders. “Hey, Damon. It’s going okay, I guess. Listen, I need to ask you a huge favor. Can you please help me out with something urgent right now?”
The line goes slightly quiet on his end, the sound of papers rustling in the background. “Of course. What is it? Is something wrong?”
“Well… um…” I clear my throat, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. “I still have some of my required history books and personal materials left inside my old room. The room in Kai’s apartment. I have Wolf History next, and I really need them so I don’t lose marks. Could you possibly help me retrieve them? I don’t have the security clearance badge for his floor anymore.”
Damon lets out a chuckle. “Oh, is that all? Yeah, absolutely, Lyra. Tell you what, why don’t you come meet me directly in front of Kai’s apartment block right now? I’ll be waiting by the main lobby entrance, and I can give them to you easily.”

A huge wave of relief washes over me. “Yay! Thank you so much, Damon. You are a lifesaver. I’m heading over right now.”
“See you in a few, kiddo,” he says cheerfully before hanging up the call.

I throw my tablet into my bag, zip it closed, and offer a quick excuse to Amara and Isolde, telling them to head to the history hall
without me and save me a seat near the back. Without waiting for their replies, I sprint out of the class and hurry across the sunlit
campus grounds, making a direct line for the elite residential sector where the royal apartments are located.
When I finally slide to a halt in front of Kai’s towering stone apartment block, I am slightly out of breath. My eyes instantly scan the
grand entranceway, and I spot Damon leaning casually against one of the marble pillars, a broad smile on his face.
But as I approach him, my eyes drop to his sides. His hands are completely empty. There are no books, no boxes, and no materials.
I stop right in front of him, my brow furrowing in deep confusion. “Damon? Where are my things? I thought you were going to bring
them down.”
Damon shifts his weight from one foot to the other, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. He rubs the back of his neck, avoiding my
