Chapter 241
Lyra’s POV
I feel only one thing right now as the heavy bass vibrates through my chest: freedom.
The spiritual, rhythmic music has been playing loudly for the past ten minutes, and I am completely losing myself in it. Initially, I
only wanted to step onto this dance floor with Andrew because I wanted to hurt Kai.
I wanted to get back at him for the way he played with my mind, for whispering those beautiful lies into my head while sitting tight
next to his mate. But now? Now, I am simply enjoying myself.
The alcohol from my drink is warming my veins, making the heavy weight of my secrets feel a little bit lighter.
Andrew laughs appreciatively as I turn my back completely to him. I lean forward, bending my ass right into the crook of his trousers in a sexy kind of dance move. This is one of Amara’s favorite moves to do at parties. Twerking, she calls it. I never in a million years thought I would actually be brave enough to dance this way in public, let alone be this carefree, but here I am, doing
It’s time for me to stop giving a damn about someone who clearly doesn’t give a damn about me. I’m done crying over him.
I continue shaking my hips, my breath coming in short pants of pure excitement.
Then suddenly, the hands on my waist vanish. Andrew stops moving entirely.
I pause my dancing and turn around to see what happened. And I freeze instantly.
Kai is standing right in front of us.
The loud music seems to fade into the background as we stare at each other, the air between us turning thick and suffocating. The
physical tension is sizzling so loudly I can practically feel it cracking against my skin.
“Step away from her,” Kai says. His voice is a low, dangerous command that vibrates with Lycan authority.
Is he actually serious right now? Who does he think he is? I mean I know who he is, but still??
Andrew tenses up beside me, his instincts telling him to submit to the Lygan Prince. He starts to step backward, loosening his stance, but I reach out immediately and grab Andrew’s leather jacket, holding onto him tightly.
“No, I say, my voice firm as I look at my date. “Andrew, please don’t go anywhere. Stay right here.”
I turn my head toward Kai, glaring at him with all the anger burning in my chest. “What do you want, your highness? You should be
over there dancing with your chosen mate. Why are you bothering us?”

eyes slowly bleeding away, replaced by a dark, glowing red. He is absolutely furious.
bitter laugh bubbles up in my throat. Why the hell would he be furious with me when he was just passionately kissing Rina on the
couch a few minutes ago? The hypocrisy makes me want to scream.
“Step the fuck away from her now, Andy,” Kai warns, turning his deadly gaze completely onto Andrew. His voice is much harsher this
time, dropping into a deep growl that promises violence.
The entire atmosphere around us goes deathly tense. The students dancing nearby have stopped moving entirely, clearing a wide circle around us as they start whispering and staring at the unfolding drama. I refuse to back down: I tighten my grip on Andrew’s
jacket, anchoring him to me.
Kai narrows his eyes into dangerous slits, stepping an inch closer. “You don’t want to defy me.”
I can literally feel the fear radiating off Andrew’s body. He is shaking against me, his eyes darting between me and the lethal prince standing in front of us. I feel a sudden, violent urge to punch Kai right in his stupid, handsome face. Why must he always be so controlling? Why must he be so toxic, refusing to let me have a single moment of peace? What a bully!
Andrew looks down at me with a genuinely apologetic expression on his face. I’m really sorry, Lyra… but I have to step away now. I can’t do this.” He gently detaches my fingers from his jacket. “I hope the two of you can settle your issues. Thank you for the dance
tonight.”
As soon as he walks away, blending back into the crowd of onlookers, I turn my full glare onto Kai. I feel an overwhelming wave of anger crashing through me, so intense that I want to kill him right here.
I refuse to let him look down on me. I stand on my tiptoes, leaning my body into his space until our faces are only inches apart. 1 look him dead in his glowing red eyes, my voice a fierce, venomous whisper.
“Fuck you, if you think you can control my life after ruining it.”
Kai’s jaw tightens, his eyes widening slightly at my harsh words, but I don’t give him a chance to speak. I turn around on my heel and walk away as fast as my legs can carry me, heading straight for the thick bushes at the edge of the clearing.
“Lyra! Wait!” I hear his deep voice call out my name behind me, but I completely ignore it.
I push through the heavy leaves and branches, breaking out of the festival circle and heading deep into the dark, quiet woods. I
can’t be around him. I need space.
I start to run. I run past the tall trees as the cool night air bites at my bare skin, my heart panting wildly against my ribs.
When I am finally so far into the forest that the thumping bass of the music is completely gone, leaving only the sound of the wind,
I drop to the ground.
I pull my knees to my chest, feeling utterly defeated and broken as a ragged sob finally catches in my throat. Tears stream freely down my face, dripping onto my top.

Chapter 241
“What does he want from me?” I cry out into the empty darkness, my voice cracking with pure misery. “He won’t publicly claim me
as his. He won’t protect me. And he won’t let me live my own life in peace. What the hell does he want from me?!”
I bury my face in my hands, trying to catch my breath as the heavy silence of the woods surrounds me. It’s oddly comforting..
After a few minutes of crying quietly, a sharp sound cuts through the darkness behind me.
I freeze. It sounds like a footstep moving a twig.
I quickly rise to my feet, wiping the tears from my eyes with the back of my hand. My anger comes Tushing back, and I prepare myself to turn around and yell at Kai to stop stalking me through the forest.
I turn around quickly. “Kai, will you just-
