The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 242

Chapter 242

Kaj –

I watch as Lyra bolts straight into the woods.

“Lyra!” I call out, my voice booming over the loud music of the bonfire.

She doesn’t even spare me a single glance. She just keeps running, disappearing deeper into the thick bush. My chest tightens, and I

step forward, ready to chase after her and drag her back into my arms where she belongs.

“Hey! Give her some space, Kai!”

A heavy hand clamps down on my shoulder, spinning me around. I look down to see Roman standing in front of me, his jaw set and

his eyes narrow.

Anger suddenly rips through my veins. “Get your hand off me before I break it, Roman, I growl, clenching my fists at my sides. I

want to hit him. I want to tear his face apart for stepping between me and my fated mate.

Before I can swing at him, Damon steps into the space between us and wraps his arms around my chest, using all his strength to

hold me back.

“Kai, calm the fuck down! Don’t do this here,” Damon says, physically pulling me away from the edge of the dance floor and forcing

me back onto the leather couch.

Kara steps up beside us, crossing her arms as she watches the crowd stare at us. “Roman is right, Kai. Give her some space. She’s

clearly overwhelmed and probably just needs a few minutes to herself to cool down.”

Roman crosses his arms, letting out a mocking scoff. “It’s no wonder she wants space from you. You won’t even let the poor girl

breathe. You format your whole life around making her miserable, and then you wonder why she runs.”

I lunge forward despite Damon’s grip, my fangs slipping out past my lips.

“You better shut the fuck up, Roman. You don’t know a single thing about us. Keep her name out of your mouth before I make sure

you never speak again.”

Roman doesn’t back down, but he doesn’t say anything else. I sink back into the couch, feeling my heart race in my ribs like a trapped animal. I don’t feel comfortable letting her be on her own in the dark woods. Not at all. The forest surrounding the academy isn’t safe, especially not for someone like her. But since I already fucked up by annoying Lyra and pushing her to the edge, I know I have no choice but to listen to my beta and my sister. If I follow her right now, she will only hate me more.

The bonfire party continues to roar all around us. The music changes to another track, and students continue to laugh, drink, and swim in the fountain pool. But to me, the world has gone completely silent. I keep my eyes glued to the dark area of the woods where Lyra ran over expecting her sweet face to show up anytime now. Every second feels like an eternity.

Chapter 242

‘I don’t feel good about this, Kai,’ Vlad says, his voice sounding unsettled. My Lycan beast is pacing around, scratching at my mind.

“Something is wrong. We need to go and check on Lyra right now.”

Just wait,’ I tell him internally, trying to soothe my own rising panic. ‘We should give her a few more minutes alone. Perhaps she would

have calmed down by now. If I rush in there, she’ll just fight me.’

Vlad lets out an impatient grow that makes my head throb. After a few more agonizing minutes, I look over at the tree line again.

There is still no sign of Lyra coming back.

The anxiety in my gut turns into a cold knot. No. I have to check on her. I don’t care about giving Her space anymore.

I stand up abruptly from the couch.

Instantly, Roman stands up along with me, blocking my path once again. He looks at me with a stubborn expression. “If you’re going

into the woods after her, I’m following you too.”

We stand there, chest to chest, the situation turning incredibly tense within a second as we glare at each other.

“Get the hell out of my way, Roman,” I say, my voice dropping into a dangerous, lethal whisper. “I am not in the mood for your

games tonight.”

Roman tilts his chin up, his eyes flashing. “You can’t bully me like that Andrew kid, Kai. I’m not afraid of your royal title. You’re

completely toxic for her.”

I try to curb my anger, try to push the wild rage back down so I don’t cause a scene, but it’s hardly working. My vision is already
