The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 254

Chapter 254

Damon stands a few feet away with his arms crossed over his chest, expression grim as he watches over us. Nobody else says a word. The silence in the hallway is completely suffocating.

After what feels like eternity, the door to Lyra’s room finally clicks open.

The doctor walks out into the hallway, pulling his clipboard against his chest. His face is lined with deep worry, and he refuses to look me directly in the eye as he approaches our group. Fuck!

We all rush to him immediately. “What is wrong with her? Why did she say those things? Tell me what is wrong with my mate!”

The doctor lets out a long, heavy sigh, shaking his head. “Prince Kai, please try to listen to me calmly. I have just finished running a few neurological checks on her. Lyra is suffering from a very specific case of

selective amnesia.”

I freeze, my chest tightening. “Selective amnesia? What the hell does that mean?”

The doctor looks at me with an expression of pure sympathy.

“It means her mind has intentionally blocked out a specific section of her life. Due to the extreme, severe head injury she sustained tonight, combined with an intense amount of recent psychological trauma and emotional distress, her brain has enacted some kind of defense mechanism. I’m guessing she went through something emotional that is centered almost entirely around you right before the impact. And we also don’t know what happened to her while she was kidnapped. It’s like her mind chose to protect itself from breaking completely, by forgetting you, your identity, and everything directly associated with your presence

in her life.”

The words hit me like a bullet to the chest. I stumble back a step, my mind completely short-circuiting.

“What?”

“Furthermore,” the doctor continues in a professional but grim voice. “the amnesia has also blocked out the entire event of her abduction. She currently remembers nothing about being taken by the demons or the fight in the woods. Her mind has essentially wiped the slate clean of the trauma.”

“So… so she forgot just me?” I ask, my voice dropping into a broken, disbelieving whisper. I point a

trembling hand at my own chest. “Out of everyone in this godforsaken room, I am the only one she doesn’t

recognize? Me, who is supposed to be her fated mate?!”

The doctor lets out another exhausted breath, looking down at his clipboard. “The human and shifter mind are incredibly complex structures, Your Highness. We cannot accurately predict or dictate how these trauma blocks work. Her brain targeted the primary source of her recent emotional turmoil to keep her stable.”

Kara steps forward, her face frantic as she grips the doctor’s sleeve. “But what if we try to force her to remember? What if we show her things? What if Kai stays in the room and keeps reminding her of their bond and their memories together? Won’t that break the block?”

“Absolutely not,” the doctor says immediately, his voice turning sharp and authoritative. “I must strictly forbid you from doing anything of the sort. Attempting to force or pressure her mind into remembering right now could cause severe and permanent brain damage. It could completely shatter her mental stability. You cannot rush this. You must simply wait until her brain feels safe enough to unlock those memories

entirely on its own.”

My hands begin to shake violently at my sides. A cold, terrifying dread wraps its claws around my throat, cutting off my air supply. I look at the doctor, my voice cracking with a fear I have never felt in my entire

life.

“And… and um… how soon will she get her memories back?” I ask, my throat completely tight. “How long do we have to wait? A week? A month?”

The doctor looks up from his notes, his eyes completely solemn as he delivers the final, crushing blow.

“I am truly sorry, Prince Kai, but I cannot give you a certain timeline. With selective trauma blocks like this, it is entirely unpredictable. It could be a few weeks. It could be months. It could take several years.” He pauses, letting out a heavy breath. “Or… she may never get those memories back at all. Especially when we don’t know what she went through with the demons.”

The world around me completely stops spinning.

I drop my head into my hands, my knees buckling slightly as a wave of devastation crashes over my soul. This can’t be happening.

My mate is sitting right behind that door, breathing and alive, but the Lyra who belonged to me is
