The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 258

Chapter 258

Lyra

I stand in a straight line inside the huge test hall, surrounded by hundreds of other students. The air in the room is thick with nervous energy. Today is our third assessment test, and everyone is completely on edge.

Amara and Isolde are standing directly in front of me on the queue. Nobody is talking. Everyone stands perfectly still, our bodies tense as the supervisor for today’s test walks forward onto the raised platform at

the front of the hall.

The man steps up to the microphone and adjusts his jacket, looking out over the crowd with a sharp,

calculating gaze.

“Welcome, dear he-wolves, she-wolves, and…anything in between, His voice rings out clearly through the

speakers.

The moment the words leave his mouth, I freeze. Amara and Isolde quickly turn their heads around to throw a panicked glance at me. My heart hitches, and a knot of fear tightens in my stomach. I look back at them

with my eyes wide.

What on earth does he mean by anything in between?

This academy has always been for wolves and Lycans. There are no other shifters like dragons or foxes or any other type. Does this man somehow know something about my true identity? Does he know about my fox? A cold sweat breaks out on the back of my neck. I surely hope not. If the school finds out what I really am, I don’t even want to think about what will happen to me. I really don’t know how long I will continue to hide what I am. Nick had told me yesterday that soon, we’d have to start training on how to harness my phoenix side to strengthen my Fox more. Only then can I fulfill my destiny. I asked him what destiny he means, he only told me I’ll know when I get my memories back.

But what if I never get them back?

The man on the stage clears his throat, drawing everyone’s attention back to the stage. “I am Professor Belmont, a beta from the sun pack.” he introduces himself, voice cold and serious. “I will be overseeing your assessment today. Pay close attention, because the rules for this third assessment are entirely different from your previous tests.”

He pauses, letting his eyes roam across the silent lines of students.

“Today, you will not be competing as individuals,” Professor Belmont explains. “Instead, you will all form a team. Every single one of you will be placed into a group of five. You will be judged strictly by your team’s overall performance. If your team loses the objective, you will automatically fail the entire assessment and

be put on academic probation for two weeks.”

“What?” I whisper out loud, my breath catching in my throat.

The news causes everyone in the hall to gasp in shock. Instantly, the silence breaks down as everyone in the hall starts to murmur angrily. The students look around at each other with deep frustration. No one wants to have their entire grade compromised by an unlucky team. No one wants to fail just because they happened to be paired with weaker wolves.

Professor Belmont strikes the podium with his hand, forcing the crowd to quiet down.

“Silence!” he commands. “In the real world, wolves do not fight alone. You fight as a pack. If one falls, the pack falls. Now, let me explain the details of your task.”

He steps out from behind the podium, pointing toward the large virtual reality screens lined up against the

back wall of the hall.

“The task is simple but highly demanding,” Professor Belmont says. “Each group will step through the portal and enter a simulated environment. Once inside, your team must run through the dense forest and locate five hidden artifacts. You must secure exactly one artifact for each member of your group. Furthermore, you must complete this task and finish before the countdown timer runs out on the digital watches you will be
