Chapter 272
I watch as Kara carries my mate away from me until they disappear around the corner of the building. My hands are balled into fists at my sides. Every instinct I have is screaming at me to go after them, to take her back, to keep her close where I can watch her, where I can protect her, or perhaps, where I can control her.
But I don’t.
I can’t rush this. If I push too hard, Lyra will pull away. She hasn’t completely given herself up to me, and she’s starting to remember things she shouldn’t. I need to be patient. I need to slowly weave myself into her life until she fully becomes mine. Once she’s mine, she won’t be able to leave me, and she certainly won’t be able to go running back to my damn cousin, Kai, ever again.
But there is an obstacle. A massive one.
I need to make a call.
I spin around and walk speedily away from the main path, heading toward the back of the training complex where it connects with the forest beyond. I need privacy.
I find a secluded spot near the perimeter fence, far away from any prying ears, and pull my phone from my
pocket.
I dial a number. It rings for a few seconds.
“Hello, Lycan Prince. What do you want?”
The voice on the other end is deep, gravelly, and has a thick accent with it. It sends a chill down my spine, even after all this time.
I look around once more, confirming that the area is empty, before I speak.
“I thought you said you would take her memory of Kai forever if I gave you proof that she is the phoenix fox and gave you her location!”
“And I did,” the bastard replies, sounding entirely bored.

“Then why the fuck is she having flashbacks?” I hiss, my voice dropping to a dangerous level. “This wasn’t
the fucking deal!”
“You better mind your tone there, boy,” he warns me. “And calm down. Tiny flashbacks mean nothing. That’s all they will be. She is unlocking naturally, which is inevitable. What you should worry about is getting her back to me. You know damn well I wasn’t able to carry out my plans on her because she’s too powerful. You are my proxy. Bring Lyra Diamond to me. You have just a week, boy.”
“A week?” I ask, feeling the blood drain from my face. “That’s not enough fucking time!”
“One week. Or I reveal what you are, and exactly what you’ve been doing in the background.”
Fear instantly grips my spine. “I’ll…I’ll see what I can do.”
The line goes dead.
I stare at the blank screen of my phone, feeling frustrated. One week. He wants Lyra in one week. He wants
to have my mate because of her identity.
He thinks he’s playing me. He thinks I’m his little puppet, doing his dirty work so I can gain a scrap of
power or a bit of safety.
He thinks Lyra will belong to him. He thinks I’m going to hand her over to him in the end.
I let out a low laugh. He has no idea what my plans are. He has no idea that I’m not just trying to win Lyra’s heart, I’m trying to rewrite her entire existence.
I start walking back toward the dorms with my mind racing. I need to make sure Lyra doesn’t talk to anyone else. I need to isolate her. I need to make sure those flashbacks don’t turn into full-blown memories.
I can’t have my plans fail after coming this far, doing things that I would never do just because I want the
love of my life.
And as long as Lyra stays with me, as long as she stays under my thumb, she’ll never realize that I’m the one who’s caused this whole thing to happen to her. While I’m not proud of it, I’d do it over and over again.
there’s not much difference between Kai and me. Where he wants to own Lyra against

My Lycan beast purrs in the back of mind. ‘No matter how long it takes, no matter who has to go. Lyra and her
fox will be ours!’
‘Yes she will.’ I answer him. All I need to do is need to keep her away from fucking Kai. One week isn’t a long time, but it’s enough to set things in motion.
