The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 300

Chapter 300

Lyra

I try to regulate my erratic heartbeat as Kal and I stare at each other silently for a moment. The living room is completely quiet, and the darkness makes everything feel way more intense than it should be clear my throat awkwardly, trying to break the heavy silence because the tension is getting way too

high.

Kai looks down at the phone in my hand, tilting his head slightly. “Who did she say?” he asks.

I look down at the screen one more time to make sure I read it right. “Uh…Kara just told me that she won’t be around for the night,” I say, looking up at

him.

Kai stays quiet for a moment, letting the words sink in. Then, a slow smile spreads across his face. “Is that why you look so worried?”

I stare at him speechlessly. I don’t even know what to say. He is literally smiling like this is funny, while my brain is panicking because we are going to be totally alone in this apartment until tomorrow morning.

“Stop smiling, Kai. It’s not funny,” I mutter, crossing my arms.

“I’m not laughing at you,” he says, though the smile stays on his lips. “I just think it’s interesting how panicked you are.”

“I am not panicked. I am being realistic,” I say defensively. “Kara is gone, my friends went with Nick, and we are the only ones here. After the kind of nigh I’ve had, forgive me if I’m a little on edge.”

Kai’s smile slowly fades, replaced by a somber expression. He lets out a soft sigh and takes a slow step closer to me. The sudden movement makes me hold my breath. He stops in front of me, taking up all the space in the hallway. He is so tall that I actually have rank my neck back just to look up into his

green eyes.

He stares down at me, his green eyes dark but gentle. “Lyra, you don’t have to worry about being alone with me,” he says softly. “I know you don’t remembe a single thing about me for now. I know you wake up every day feeling confused, and I know you probably think I’m just a brute or a bully because of how I’ve been acting since you woke up in that hospital.”

He rubs the back of his neck and looks away for a quick second before looking right back into my eyes. “But I promise, I would never hurt you. I did too much of that in the past… so much that it makes me want to shoot myself in the head just thinking about it. I hate the way things used to be between us i would take most of my actions back if I could, and I would completely erase the day you were kidnapped and that your memory. I just want to fix this, Lyra. I… Kai sighs deeply and closes his eyes tight, clenching his jaw as if he’s trying desperately to find the right words to explain how he feels, but he’s failing

to find them.

Watching him struggle like this makes something squeeze tight inside my chest. It’s painful to see him look so genuinely guilty. I want so badly to tell kai the truth, I want to tell him that I’m actually starting to get bits and pieces of my memory of him back. I want to tell him that he isn’t a total blank space in

my head anymore.

But then I remember what Roman told sie. Roman explicitly said that no one should know about my memories returning yet. He said it was safer to keep it a kerret until we figure out who kidnapped me. And now with these creepy notes and bloodsoaked sheets. I really believe 1m being targeted by who? ¡ đový
