Chapter 303

Fart that warning, the warmth vanishes.

The intoxicating heat of our kiss is ruined as the water around my ankles turns ice-cold. Startled, I break away from Kai’s lips and look down.

A gasp of horror leaves my mouth. The crystal-clear, water has completely vanished. In its place is a thk pool of red. The water has turned to pure blood, staining my legs and sending a metallic smell in the air.

I look up, terrified, as the beautiful oasis begins to rot right before our eyes. The golden sunlight vanishes, replaced by a dark gloom. The vibrant green leaves on the trees shrivel up, turning into ash. The stone bathtub cracks, and the once-peaceful forest transforms into a dead, decaying wasteland.

*Kai… Kai, what’s happening?” My voice is trembling as I grip his arms.

Kai’s face is pale and his playful expression is completely wiped away. He looks around the decaying forest, his body rigid and tense. “I don’t know, but we need to get out of here. Now.”

But before we can take even a single step forward, a monstrous growl echoes through the trees, making both of us freeze dead in our tracks. The sound is sa heavy that it vibrates through the ground.

Suddenly, dark shadowy figures Begin to appear from behind the trees They writhe and crawl across the ground like serpents, swisting together in a violent, right in front of us until they form a towering, faceless demonic entity.

The creature has no features, only a massive, shifting mass of absolute darkness that seems to swallow the very air around it.

Kai immediately steps in front of me, shielding my body with his own. He throws his head back, preparing to let out Vlad and tear the monster to pieces, but he never gets the chance.

Before he can even move, thick black smoke blasts forward from the demon, wrapping violently around Kai’s throat like a rope. The smoke lifts his body entirely off the ground. He chokes, his fingers clawing desperately at the smoky binds suffocating him.

“Kai!” I yell, trying to pull him to me.

“Lyra… run!” Kai chokes out in a strangled gasp as his face begins to turn a terrifying shade of dark red from the lack of air.

“No! Kai!” I scream in pure panic. I throw myself forward, desperate to grab the shadowy tendrils and rip them off his neck, but the moment I try to move, my feet fuse to the ground. I am completely frozen on the spot, paralyzed by an invisible force.

I suddenly can’t move my arms. I can’t move my legs. I am forced to stand there and watch the horror unfolding right in front of me.

No, no, no! Let him go! I scream internally, my mind franticly thrashing against the paralysis.

Desperation claws at my throat. I reach deep into the my mind, screaming for my fox.

‘Wyndra! Please, help me! Wyndra!” But there is nothing. Just a cold, echoing void where my fox should be. Panicking, I squeeze my eyes tight, trying to force out my phoenix powers. I try to summon the fire laser I once used, but nothing happens. I’m completely empty and weak.

I watch as the monster grabs Kai and then drives a shadowy blade straight through the center of Kai’s chest.

“NO!” I scream in absolute horror. No. No. No!

Kai’s body goes limp. The shadowy figure drops him, and he collapses into the pool of blood, the vibrant, intense green of his eyes rapidly fades ungt it’s completely lifeless. He is gone.
