I shake my head, crossing my arms tightly over my chest to keep myself from swinging at him. “I’m not interested in listening to a single word you have to say when I saw what I needed to see. Go back out there to whoever that girl is. You two seemed perfectly happy and cozy together anyway.”
Kai looks absolutely furious at my words as a dark shadow crosses his face as he stares down at me. But I don’t care about his temper. I am not intimidated by his Lycan aura, not when my heart is breaking into a million pieces. The elevator dings, announcing our arrival at the top floor. As soon as the doors slide open, I rush out into the hallway, heading straight over to Kara’s apartment.
Kai follows closely behind, his heavy footsteps echoing right behind me like a thunderstorm. He keeps trying to talk to me, but I can barely hear him over the ringing in my ears. All I can think of, all I can see in my mind, is the image of him standing out there with that raven–haired girl wrapped around him. He looked so close to her. He looked like he was completely mesmerized by her beauty.
Tears well up in my eyes, blurring my vision so badly that I can hardly see where I’m going. I stumble slightly against the carpet, breath catching in my throat as I wipe my face with the back of my hand. The pain in my chest is a physical weight, crushing my lungs.
Kai keeps talking to me, reaching out to grab my wrist, but I violently jerk away from him.
“Lyra, stop walking! We can’t fix this if you won’t let me speak,” his voice is loud and desperate. I want to listen to him, but it’s so hard to get past what I saw. And who is that girl? Why did he look like he was hypnotized by her?
“Please, flower, just let me tell you what happened. Just give me two minutes.”
“Don’t you call me flower!” I yell, suddenly stopping dead in my tracks. I turn around to glare right at him, the tears finally spill over my cheeks in a hot torrent. “I don’t even know why I’m this upset! I should have known better. I should have known that the crown Lycan prince could never belong to me. Not in this life, and definitely not in the next.”
Kai looks like I just physically struck him on the face. The hurt in his eyes is deep, but it quickly shifts into intense anger. “That’s absolute bullshit and you know it, Lyra,” he growls, stepping closer until he is towering over me again, his intoxicating manly scent dizzying me. “I belong to you, and you belong to me. We’ve faced so many hurdles together already, so much pain, and we somehow still found our way back to each other. I am not going to let one tiny, irrelevant thing come between this beautiful bond we are finally
building.”
I let out a bitter, hollow laugh, shaking my head as I look at him. “A tiny little thing? Is that what you call it? The tiny little thing being you almost shoving your face straight down a random girl’s chest after disappearing from the room without telling me? Oh, okay. Wow. Maybe I should just go out and do the exact same thing with-”
“Don’t even finish that sentence,” Kai’s voice drops into a terrifyingly low growl that vibrates right through my chest. His eyes flash a dangerous, glowing red, showing that his beast is pushing to the surface. He steps right into my personal space until his chest is touching mine. I freeze as I stare up at him.
“Don’t. Don’t even think of finishing that sentence, or I will find him and kill him myself right now. Don’t wake up that monster in me, Lyra. Fucking please! Do not play games with me.”

Chapter 314
“So you’re allowed to be jealous and territorial, but I’m not? What a wonderful relationship, Kai! You get to hold other girls at five in the morning, but if I even mention another guy, you threaten murder!”
Kai lets out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his dark hair as he tries to force his beast back down. “Of course you can be jealous, flower. I totally expect you be. But that’s exactly why I’m standing here trying to explain myself, because I didn’t do anything wrong! Can you please just give me two minutes to explain what you saw?”
