The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Lyra

I open my eyes, but I’m not in my room,

Everything around me is colorless like an old, dusty photograph. I’m standing in the middle of a forest, but it’s not the lush forest surrounding the academy grounds. Here, the trees are twisted, their branches reaching out like skeletal fingers, and the ground is covered in dried weeds that wrap around my ankles.

Hello?I call out. My voice sounds flat and almost silent in this vast world. Is anyone there?

Silence. Not even the sound of a bird or the wind. Just the suffocating stillness of a dead world.

I turn around and start to walk, my boots crunching on dry leaves that turn to ash the moment I step on them. The further I go, the darker the sky gets,

turning a dark shade of grey.

Suddenly, the weeds under my feet snap. I spin around, my heart hammering in my chest. A figure suddenly shoots out from behind one of the bonelooking trees and heads straight for me. It’s a woman, but her skin’s all grey and peeling off in rotten patches. Her eyes are just blank white pits of despair.

I try to run but she’s too fast as she grabs my shoulders with a grip that feels like iron.

“You need to remember, Lyrastra!she screeches, her voice sounding like glass breaking. She shakes me so hard my teeth rattle. Help me! Lyrastra, open

your eyes! Remember what they took!

I scream, trying to push her cold, decaying body away, but she won’t let go. Her face starts to melt, her jaw hanging at a horrible angle as her voice distorts

and fades away.

Remember!

The ground beneath me suddenly cracks open. The whole blackandwhite world starts to fold in on itself, collapsing like a house of cards. I scream as I feel myself falling into an endless, dark pit.

Then I bolt upright in bed, gasping for air.

My chest is heaving, and my nightshirt is soaked with cold sweat. I look around wildly, my eyes darting from the wooden wardrobe to the smal window. I’m in my room at the prince’s apartment. It’s midmorning, and the morning light is peeking through the curtains.

I bury my face in my trembling hands. This is the third night in a row. Ever since I passed out while cleaning that horrible sparring room three days ago, the

nightmares haven’t stopped,

It’s been three days of pure exhaustion. Three days of trying to balance my classes at Krypton while being Prince Kai’s slave. He’s been relentless, giving me

task after task until my bones ache and my head vibrates violently.

The first night, I saw a beast in my dream. It was a massive, shadowed monster chasing me through the dark. But now, it’s changing. Now there are people

I remember the decaying woman who told me to remember something.

Remember what?I whisper in a trembling voice. That’s when I realize that my face is wet. I quickly wipe the tears from my cheeks.

I don’t have any memories hidden away. My life has been a straight line of misery and being wolfless. There’s nothing to go back to.

Chapter 38

I sit on the edge of the bed for a while, letting my heart beat settle. My throat feels like it’s been rubbed with sandpaper. I need water, and the small bottle un my table is empty

I stand up even though my legs feet deak. I pull on a jacket over my pajamas, not caring what I look like. I just need to get to the kitchen area and back

before the prince notices I’m awake. Or hopefully he’s not around.
