The Lycan Prinee’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)
Chapter 39
I make my way to the kitchen, my footsteps silent on the floor. I don’t turn on the lights, preferring the dim morning shadows. I reach for a glass, but a
sudden movement near the window makes me jump.
I nearly drop the glass, my heart leaping into my throat.
Kai is standing there. He’s leaning against the breakfast bar, looking out at the academy grounds. He isn’t wearing a shirt, just a pair of grey sweatpants that
hang loosely on his hips. In the dim light, his body looks like it was carved from stone. Every muscle in his back and chest is defined, and the sight is
honestly overwhelming. He looks sinful, like a beautiful disaster I should stay away from.
Why am I even ogling his body for goddess’s sakes??
“Thirsty?” he suddenly asks, not even bothering to turn around to look at me.
“Your highness…….didn’t think you’d be up,” I say, my voice sounding raspy and thin.
He finally turns, his dark eyes scanning my face. He looks tired too. ‘I could say the same to you. You’re trembling.”
“It’s just the cold,” I lie, moving to the sink to fill my bottle.
“It’s the dreams,” he says. It isn’t a question. He steps closer, the heat coming off his bare skin hitting me in waves. It’s a strange contrast to the cold room.
‘I could hear your whimpering through the wall.”
I stiffen, staring into my water. “I’m sorry, I’ll try to be more quiet.”
“Are you alright?”
I look at him, wondering why he’s asking. “Yes I’m fine. It was just… a dream.”
“You don’t look fine. You look like you’re breakable.” He reaches out, his fingers hovering near my arm but not quite touching. “Is that why you were hugging
my cousin? Looking for some comfort?”
Is he serious?
‘I wasn’t looking for anything,” I snap, finally meeting his gaze. “He was just being nice. You should try it sometime.”

Kai’s jaw tightens. He takes a step into my space, looming over me. The tension between us is heavy, thick with something I can’t explain. My eyes track the way his chest rises and falls, the close proximity making my head spin. For a second, his gaze drops to my lips, and the air feels like it’s been sucked out of
the room.
“I don’t have the luxury of being nice, Lyra,” he whispers, his voice low and dangerous. “And neither should you.”
I look away, unable to handle the intensity in his eyes. “I’m going back to my room.”
I turn to leave, but before I can take a single step, a sharp, choked sound breaks the silence.
I spin back. Kai is clutching the edge of the counter so hard the stone looks like it might crack. His face is squeezed with a look of pure agony, his skin
turning a sickly, greyish white.

Chapter 39
Prince kai?” Hask, my heart beginning to race for an entirely different reason. “What is it?”
He doesn’t answer. A groan escapes him as his knees buckle. He hits the floor with a loud thud, his eyes rolling back into his head.
“Kai!” I scream, dropping the glass. It shatters on the floor as I run to his side.
I grab his shoulders, trying to hold him up, but he’s dead weight. I pull his head onto my lap, my hands shaking violently. “Kai! Look at me! Open your
eyes!”
I press my ear to his bare, tattooed chest, waiting to hear his heartbeat. But I hear nothing.
What is wrong with him??
I frantically check the pulse at his neck, my fingers pressing into his cold skin. There’s no movement. No breath.
